Hey hun, I am sorry I have no advice but I didn't want to read and run.

I hope someone can help you, there is enough that comes with pregnancy without this adding to it for you x

keep going back to the docs, and telling them how sore its making you, really pester them, mine gave me codeine to help, its supposed to counteract the runs by making you a bit more "solid" plus helps kill the pain, id even say the midwife told you to ask over it if your in that much agony chick i feel for ya truely mine had me in tears for months xx

hi hun,

I have IBS which swings to diarrhoea rather than constipation mainly. it is tough as before i used to pop a couple of immodiums and i would be fine but we can't take them so where my episodes would last 2-3 hours before they last 2-3 days of feeling upset in my belly and bowels - not fun! if i go 3 or 4 days without any movement i know i will pay for it with bad diarrhoea so its like sitting on a time bomb!

it's bearable though - i've had it for about 3 years now so i have just learnt to deal with it - doctors are useless and unless you have to live with it people just don't understand how awful it can be.

so...my sympathies are with you and I would love to hear of any remedies if anyone knows of any, but i won't keep my hopes up! xxx

Aww hun I completely sympathise with you! I've had IBS since I was 14 (35 now) and I gotta say that pregnancy eases mine rather than blows it out. I'm more on the constipation side of IBS usually, altho the bouts of diarrhea do come and go, but I've been very lucky since getting pregnant and only had a couple of bouts of diarrhea and major constipation.
I dont really know what to suggest other than pestering your GP or MW hun. Pregnancy is hard enough without IBS adding to it!

I have been suffering horrible tummy aches and pains since the beginning. I am going to talk to my midwife about testing for celiacs, since my sister has it, but aside from exercise if it is just IBS rearing its ugly head I don't think there is much else.

The midwife did initially try to reduce my iron supplements by prescribing me a special prenatal that splits up the calcium and iron so that you don't have as much iron to digest - which is supposed to help. I didn't notice a difference though.

The other thing is to avoid the foods that cause tummy upset of course. No brocolli, beans etc if you can help it.

hope you feel better soon. I know it has been my biggest pregnancy complaint so far.

with my 1st pregnancy my ibs went completely til DS was 3 months old then it all came back with vengence.

This time, i have suffered more than i usually do with my ibs. At one point i was in tears and ended up pgoing to the docs.

I'm on codeine phosphate for my condition anyway. my doc recommended i carry on taking it as its fine to take(many people take codeine when pregnant). i argued with her i didnt think a drug like that would be good for the baby but she just laughed and said are you the doctor or am i. anyway, along with this, she also prescribed a complete change of diet. She recommended as much stodge as possible. No beans, cabbage or anything thats going to create a windy tummy therefore making ibs worse. no brown bread, lots of cereal, white bread, potatoes and rice. i was a bit dubious as i am a health freak and was worried the baby wasnt going to be getting the right nutrients and vitamins. she said there is no need to worry about baby, baby gets everything they need.

I would also like to point out though, my ibs appears to have calmed down alot over the last few weeks, and i have managed to cut back on medication and hope to stop it completely before baby is born(against doctors advice)

So i would recommend you do the diet my doc suggested. you will go constipated at some point at which point you can introduce a small amount of fruit to loosen you enough. I also found drinking plenty of water and not much else was beneficial, like the lady said above, if you have bad wind, peppermint tea is excellent.

Good luck coz we all know how horrible it makes you feel.

Hi ya, i have had a few bouts of ibs and went to the pharmacy and asked if there was anything. The pharamacist was very god and looked in his book and said i could take mebeverine now i was over 12 weeks. He looked in his book and there were no known side effects in pregnanacy and was happy for me to take it. Its otherwise known as Colfac. I have taken it when feel a bout coming on and it has really helped!!!! The only other thing is to try and control it dietry wise. I have found that fizzy pop, cheese, cream, spicy foods etc make mine worse. Hope this helps x
