I don't know I'm really in two minds about it to be honest. It's not been fully tested and that scares me more.

That said the point is probably moot, two people at my work place have it and of course they came into work, so now I'm just waiting...........

want to, but I am nervous as no one knows much about it.
Ideally I would like to wait until the first batch is done, and see if anyone has problems with it. I don't want to be a pregnant guinnie (sp) pig!

But seek the advice of your doc and maybe another doc if you can as you are higher risk than most.

hi hun,

i think the trouble is, because it is so new no one really knows much about how it can effect an unborn baby. I too am very nervous about it as we have had quite a few recent outbreaks at the local schools.

From what i have read, they don't like to give it to pregnant women, however the side effects from catching the flu would be worse for you and your baby (especially with your asthma and heart disease) than the effect from the jab.

it's a very worrying time for everyone - i wouldn't have been too bothered if i wasn't pregnant but it changes everything.

fingers crossed we will be ok and any poor ladies who are suffering with it get well soon xxx

The initial vaccine is likely to be a live vaccine, something that isn't recommended during pregnancy. Unfortunately, nobody can know for sure the outcome of taking it and it's effects upon a fetus. However, being asthmatic... you cannot take Relenza (the inhaled antiviral used by pregnant women) and will instead be given Tamiflu. Which also isn't recommended for pregnant women. At the same time, leaving the flu to run it's course is more harmful to the fetus than Tamiflu.

It all comes down to a personal choice and if your doctor considers you particularly high risk, for your own safety, accepting the vaccine should be a priority. I, personally, would not like to pioneer the vaccine as a pregnant lady. Though, my own health is of paramount importance so, if it came down to it, I know that I would take the vaccine.

In the mean time, do everything in your power to avoid contracting the virus.

i have lowered immune system due to having a kidney transplant, and pregnant, so im high risk too. my obs told me the vaccine wouldnt be out til september ish anyway. But if i do get it they give pregnant women something different to tamiflu, and with my other medical conditions considered they would prob keep me in hospital to make sure all ok. just hoping i can get through some more weeks before i get it/if i get it!!! x

I dont want to get the vaccine, I probably would prefer to get the virus and treat it with Relenza in worst case scenario than to get an injection whilst I am not yet ill, with a drug that I dont know the side effects that it may bring to the baby.

But I may change my mind, this is a very diffucult decision.
