Swine Flu

I know this has been discussed before - but i am really frightened of this - and starting to obsess! i think its cause its more and more in the news etc and one of the doctors who comes into work ( i work in a care home in the office) said everyone will get it.

i don't think i would worry i weren't pregnant!

Anyone else?

xx

I work in a GP surgery and am ofcourse worried, but in most people it is very mild (ive had an awful cold all week, who knows?!)

There is an anti-viral inhaler type thing for women who contract this strain of flu, which will minimize the symptoms but not get rid of it!

But theres now way of avoiding it, unless u stay indoors! Id say take your vitamins everyday and when u feel rundown get lots of rest! xx

I do know what you mean it's hard not too get obsessive about these things isn't it with so much in the media, there was a case at a School in my hometown and with my little boy at School I was paranoid. I carry anti bac hand gel in my handbag but otherwise there isn't much we can do, just hope.

Take care and Stay well and feel reassured that you are not the only one worrying

OMG! I'm trying not to worry about it and I'm one of the least worrisome people out there but really, if i'm totally honest about it, it is freaking me out a little. Like they talk about pandemics and stuff and that now it just seems like its quite common. A couple of friends went to a clinic on the weekend (local one in East London) and the nurses were wearing face mask things and they said it was because they had a case in the clinic!!!!!

Its so not like me and I think the same, that if I wasn't pregnant I honestly wouldn't care but I am and I'm trying to pretend I don't but why wont they make it stop!?!?!?!

yea its scary!! my best friend has it she been of work a week now and has 1 day of tamiflu left to take but she said she only had 1 really bad day as soon as she started the tamiflu she said she started to feel better and now is feeling normal again she will just finish the drugs and then come out of hiding so to speak, but i think what we need to remember is there is sumthing we can take to help us the inhaled drug and the vast majority of ppl who get it will make a full recovery even without meds and its no worse than a cold or flu bug that u would get anyway. Of course unfortunatly its worse for sum ppl but we need to remember that even if we do get it the chances are our immune systems will fight it and we will be fine within a few days. xxx

Well I suppose i have been trying to avoid the media info but now its just plastered everywhere!

So I guess I would like to know: why is it different to normal flu? Why is it an issue? Are there any known reports or affects on foetus'? Are the drugs antibiotics or a vaccine and if a vaccine what is it? is it giving you the flu? Apart from death (eep!!!!) are there any other bad affects you can be left with? Why are people dying from it? How long does it normally last? And what are the symptoms like throughout? And are we still supposed to stay at hoe if we get it?

I don't mind dealing with the flu but i don't like the idea of taking untested (well largely untested over a long amount of time) vaccines or drugs when I'm pregnant.

OOF! why couldn't this happen last year!!??!

OH just told me that they're saying 40% of us will get it. Considering how quickly a normal flu gets around I'm sure 40% will lead to more...

Thats it! I'm going to bed!
