When I went for the 20 week scan, there was signs up in the waiting room saying that if you are waiting for your 20-22 week scan, you don't need a full bladder so you can feel free to empty your bladder! I thought that was a good idea rather than having people sitting and suffering while they wait!!

My letter said to have one but I was asked to empty it before the scan began.

On the letter for my 34 week scan it says to come with a full bladder!

mine said that i did need it to be full but to drink a pint of something an hour before ... my bladder gets very full very quickly usually anyway, so much so that at the 12 week scan it was way too full and squashing baby, they made me go and empty it!
at the 20 week one i had 'some' in there and felt like i could use a wee, but it wasnt too uncomfortable. the sonographer commented something like 'you've done well with your bladder', so it might have been full-ish from their terms, but nowhere near full from mine! And she sent me for a wee halfway through to get a better picture, so it seems that sometimes too full makes for worse views not better.
so, i'd say have 'some' in there but dont worry about it being full up to the brim, as they'll get good pictures anyway. Just drink a little bottle of something while you're waiting!

I booked my 20 week scan when I had my 12 week too and they gave me a leaflet telling me to have a full bladder too but as I have hyperemesis I couldn't manage this and my scan was great
