first scan, didnt go to well

hi, i have posted this in 1st trimester but a couple of the lasies in there suggested i post it her too so here goes

hiya, i havent posted here much, but i kind of need opinions from others on this one, so here goes

so my scan started and she told me i was 12 weeks today, saw a heartbeat saw a hand and a leg so i was all happy

but then she told me that there was 3mm of nuchal fluid and that 2.5 mm was the normal amount, and that she couldnt at this point detect the nasal bone

she said that at the moment the risk of downs syndrome is small, but was very vague about everything really, so i to say i am worried is a massive understatement, the lady doing the scan said that the hospital has started extra screening and thats the reason why she has noticed it

i have to go to a different hospital for a second opinion on wednesday, and then if its agreed more tests will be done i have come away from it all feeling very deflated

has anyone had the same thing? i am so worried

Oh, Sweetheart! I'm sorry, I don't know what to say, but someone will be along who's been thru it. Just know that we're all here to support each other thru the hard times too.

3mm is the high side of normal, so try not to stress, hun. (I know it's hard). Chances are MORE than likely it's all fine!

hi,

just wanted to share my experience of this with you, on my 20 week scan they picked up that my baby nuchal fold measuement was 6.9mm this then put me into the high risk of my baby having downs syndrome.

i spent the rest of my pregnancy worrying like crazy over everything as we didnt have the amnio they offered.

They couldnt find any other soft markers through scans, but without the amnio we didnt know for sure.

on the 2nd july i gave birth to our beautiful baby who is perfect in every way and there is nothing wrong with him at all. hes a healthy baby boy, who weighed 8lb 5oz.

my advice would be talk to the hospital about everything so your not at home worrying over everything, as i drove myself insane with worrying!

thinking of you
Tiaenya

hello just thought i would update this thread

after 5 days of worrying i went for my second opinion scan today

the Dr doing this scan could only get a measurement of 2.1mm which is obviously a good result, im just so relieved, he said that normally with my background the risk would be 1 in 918 but now my risk is low 1 in 1437 given the new reading so we are chuffed

and he said he was not concerned that he couldnt see a nasal bone yet

so we are very relieved, he said there would be no point in doing an amnio and he would not recommend it, though not happy with the woman who did the first scan

but all good news, thank you for all your support and messages
