Restless Leg Syndrome

I've started with this the last few days, and what a pain in the....erm... legs it is!! I had a disrupted night sleep last night because of it, it's just so uncomfortable and annoying. I was reading that it's very common in pregnancy, but can be caused by mineral imbalance or iron deficiency, so might make a trip to the doctor to see what he thinks. Oh the joys!!

With me it usually starts late in the evening and it's like an uncontrollable spasm. You just have to move your legs, it's hard to explain, but very uncomfortable and annoying.

Well girls BEWARE - it doesnt get any better - only worse!

Mine has been worse with the hot weather. I have found a nice warm bath and lots of rasied legs on pillows helps a little.

Last night at 1am I ended up rubbing a Boots lavender aromatherapy cooling balm over my ankles legs and that eased it enough for me to sleep.

Good luck everyone x

I get this when I am tired and find that going to bed and sleeping is the only thing that does ease it. Luckily for me though it has not stopped me sleeping. It comes on in the evening. I had this before I was pregnant too and it seems to have got worse. What fun!

I'm exactly the same as you Cattia, sleeping is the only thing that gets rid of it and I'm lucky in that it doesnt wake me up at night. It's the dreaded calf cramps that do instead!

Yeah i've suffered restless leg syndrome most of my adult life, not just during pregnancy. I get it from my mum's side, unfortunately. It's like a dull ache in the leg/s and it's sooo painfull when it's at its worse, just makes me want to cut my legs off. Sometimes it's so painfull my whole body hurts. It usually comes on when i'm tired, so usually I have to go to sleep when i'm starting to get sleepy as I can feel the legs starting to ache so I have to really keep ontop of the pain. If I get to the point of tiredness and it's really painfull i'm 'ducked'.

What works for me if getting up and having a little walk, and rather than heat, cold works for me. And I keep my legs slightly elevated. Paracetamol can sometimes alleviate the pain/discomfort. it's horrible My aunty is on parkinsons medication to help the symptoms!
