Genetic Counselling

Well I'm off to see an Obstetrician today to get a referral to a genetic counsellor - has anyone had to see an OB to get a referral before??

I wondering what they'll want to ask/do it will it just be hello what do you need ok heres an sppointment off you go??

Hmmm I wonder if I can wangle getting them to use a doppler??

I must say I'm not looking forward to seeing the genetic counsellor as it makes the 50/50 chance of having a visually impaired possibly legally blind child seem all that mush closer.

sorry chuck, thats sounds scary

i dont know if its the same but we had to go an see a specialist in fetal meds due to soft markers. she counselled us about our options and really put our minds at rest.

doesnt sound like the same situation as yours but good luck

I saw a genetic counsellor a month or so ago... My midwife referred me and I didn't have to see an OB.

The genetic counsellor just sat down with me, went through my family history and talked me through the likelihood of stuff. She was really helpful.

Good luck with your appointment. x

Well the OB was horrible god forbid I have any complications and have to deal with her again...if I do need an OB I'm requesting someone else.

She was rude, abrupt and unhelpful. Infact she barely let us get a word in edgeways didn't really listen to a word we had to say when we managed to speak and she practically rushed us out of the door!

Not once did she ask me how I was feeling, how the pregnancy was going or if I had any questions. The nurse who took my blood pressure and gave me a pot to wee in was more friendly and asked me insightful questions and seemed more interested than the OB.

I know I was only there for a referral but sheez way to goto make a girl feel like a piece of shit that wasn't worth bothering with.

Heres hoping the genetic counsellors will do their job unlike someone

Sorry she wasn't any help Even if you were only there for a referral it doesn't hurt to be friendly does it?!

Hope you don't need to see her again, and that everything is okay.

Well I'm booked to go back to the OB at 32 weeks to sort out the post birth checks for baby.

So gladly (unless anything goes wrong) I wont have to see her till then!
