Dopplers

I have a cheap doppler and once I'd found babys heartbeat with it I just held it still in that place. The only movement I was making was my breathing. There were lots of odd sounds, like the sound of the baby getting quieter and lots of random loud noises. Then the babys heartbeat went away completely and I couldn't find it, except the sound of it in the distance. I put a little more gel on and used the doppler stating in the place baby had been and once again the heartbeat was there. Is this a problem with the dopler or is the baby moving away. Also the other odd noises, could they be the baby moving around?

Thanks. xx

The odd sounds you were hearing was probably the baby moving, or your insides doing stuff. I bet the baby moved when you didn't hear it anymore, last time at the docs we found the baby's heartbeat right away but then he/she decided to flip into a weird angle and it was harder to pick up. Later on when he/she has less room I doubt that will happen.

The baby will be moving away from the sound, both mine always did, they didn't seem to like being disturbed little buggers! - You will find that once baby gets bigger its easier to find and retain the heartbeat as the baby has less room to move around. You will also find (if not already) that you will detect the H/B higher up, around your belly button rather than down by your hips.
-There is lots of other sounds you will be able to hear, believe it or not you can hear the placenta!

Thanks. When I saw the midwife on Tues and got the doppler on Wed the baby was down really low and to the left. Then today I found it about 3 or 4 inches directly bellow my bellybutton. I guess it doesn't always move around much but they heartbeat did sound different just as I began to get interfearence and then went completely but I could still hear other weird sounds. Some were really loud, like when you move the doppler to fast but I didn't feel like I had wind.

my midwife said gushing and whooshing is usually blood in placenta, or your digestive tract, said babys heartbeat sounded like a train. Lots of room to move around at this stage so heartbeat can be hard to locate
