Back and Hip Pain - PGP?

Hey girls..

I've been experiencing alot of lower back and some hip pain, but only when I've been at work all day. I occasionally get it if I'm laying on my back too, I get a shooting pain kinda thru my coxix and into the back of my left thigh.
My job as an online shopper requires me to be on my feet all day, walking for the whole of my 8 hour shift so by the time I've done 5 or 6 hours, my back and hips really ache. I've only been getting this for about a week or so and by the time I got to Friday (I work 5 days a week, 8 hour shifts) I was in agony and really really stiff and sore the next morning. Having looked up the symptoms, they're pointing to Pelvic Girdle Pain.
Could this be what it is? If so, what can be done?

Thanks girls

Hey there, I've been getting this for the last couple of weeks. Its driving me nuts and making me pretty miserable now. I believe that it is pelvic girdle pain as I had similar pain in early pregnancy and had physio for it and the physio said that what I was saying was hip pain was actually pelvic pain.

I'm going back to physio on Wednesday and I am hoping desperately that it isn't going to develop into SPD.

I hope your pain settles. I think that it is worth phoning your MW and asking to be referred to physio for this. It really helps.

Mm, it sucks

I thought PGP *is* essentially SPD, but just pronounced at the 2 ligaments at the back of the pelvis, instead of the one at the front...? Damn I don't care what they want to call it - it's a pain in the arse ;p

I went to the physio... she was great, but I was already doing everything she suggested.

She primed me for using crutches when I get bigger - tried to make it sounds like some kind of trade off / bargain on being back in a wheelchair!

I had an RTA in '98 - I think thats the main contributing factor to most of my pain, but it's hard to tell now.

I've been so bone headed about getting off support before, out of w/c and off crutches etc... I'm a bit surprised that currently I'm just thinking 'sod it... whatever it takes to get from A to B'

I would say you need to get your employer to geat you a seat, cos you shouldnt be standing for so long.

I need physio, hopefully that will come through asap, only been waiting for a few weeks lol xxx

Thanks girls. I think I'll pay a visit to my doctor this week and see what he says. Even over the weekend where I've been taking it easy, my back and hips feel stiff and achey. The problem with my job is that I do the shopping for people who order from our store thru the internet so I'm out there on the shop floor, shopping all day. I had a risk assessment when I first told them I'm pregnant but that was weeks ago and of course, I wasnt feeling any pain then. I think I'll see what the doc says before worrying about work but I will notify them that I'm in pain.

Thanks again girls

hi mynx.. I have been having the same thing its like a shooting pain down my hip into the back of my thigh and i have it on both sides. my doctor told me this pain is fromthe uterus pressing on the nerves and it could get really bad ..last night i could barely walk because of it. she told me that if it gets really bad they could give me steroid shots for it but hopfully it will get better once the uterus rises a bit more and doesnt press on the nerves as much.
I hope you feel better soon. oh by the way isn't there carts that have chair attached to them that you could use? I see them at most stores maybe that would help.

Hey LilianA.. unfortunately the shopping trolleys we use arent the regular ones that the customers use. We have to use ones that hold 6 large plastic boxes so we can shop for 6 customers at a time so the trolleys end up pretty bloody heavy. The pain doesnt usually start till I've been on my feet a good 5 hours and it was much worse towards the end of the week as I got more and more tired.
I think I might hold off makin an appointment at my docs cos it'll probably be about a week or so till they can squeeze me in.. I have a MW appointment on the 19th so I might see how things go over the next week and then have a chat with her when I see her.
Thanks again for the advice everyone xXx

I have the same thing. I had it during my 1st pregnancy as well. I hate to tell you it really doesnt get any easier as time goes by. I went to physical therapy and it really did me no good. The did give me a pelvic support belt that helped until I was about 35 weeks. I am having more problems this time around and asked my doc what I can do. She said that I could try Chriopractic care this time and see if that helps. When mine gets bad my entire leg goes numb and stings with massive pain.

Sorry you are going through this. It really stinks.

Thanks
Well after much workings out and deliberating, I've decided to reduce my hours at work and go part time till my maternity leave. Money will be VERY tight, dont get me wrong, but we cant afford for me to give up completely and I dont any sick pay (havent been working at my place for long enough) so the time off I've been having due to one thing or another has kinda led to my decision.
I dont think it is PGP to be honest as the pain isnt constant, it's only when I overdo the walking and pushing my trolley around at work. I will mention this to my MW tho next Friday.
I feel it's my body's way of telling me to slow down and take things a little easier.. it's not like my 1st pregnancy when I was 18 and full of beans lol! So this is my compromise. I refuse to run myself into the ground and end up in agony because of this, So my intentions are to work 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. It's usually by about half way thru my 8 hour shift at work that I start to really feel the pain, so with these new hours I should be home by then, ready and armed with a warm bath!!

Thanks again ladies
