Baby measuring 27 weeks

I went to an informal ultrasound on saturday and I was 26 weeks exactly but the sonographer told me that the baby is measuring one week ahead at 27 weeks. I asked him if this changes my due date, he told me No. So what does that mean? The baby is just a big baby ( ouch sorry for my bits) or what? Anyone have any experience or going through the same thing? He did tell me the later you get in the pregnancy the more inaccurate the ultrasound becomes. Other than that my prince is doing just fine, he was upside down too lol!!!

I think it also varies between each machine. As for the accuracy thing, that's why they like to give dating scans around 12 weeks, as up to that point, most babies grow at the same speeds. The bigger they get, the more like their parents they become, so if you or your hubby are tall or have long legs, then you're baby is likely to be a bit bigger than a couple who are both 4ft. I dont think it makes a lot of difference unless there is a huge difference in what your baby should be measuring.. like 4 weeks more or something.

When you go for an ultrasound and they give you dates according to measurment, there is a ten day allowance on either side. basically that is how accurate the machines are: within ten days. so your baby measuring 27 weeks at 26 is only 7 days off making it just right! i have had many ultrasounds and the doc is using my six week one for dating as she said it is more accurate than, my 10, 13, or 20 week u/s

I'm also measuring a week ahead and they are not changing my dates. The measurements are 1 or 2 weeks plus or minus for error - this is why they don't change and go by your LMP - if you are sure of your LMP.

I measured three weeks ahead, and Niamh was pretty small (7lbs 11oz) and is still a tiny baby. She measured ahead because she was long, not big.

I measured ahead as well, i had a early scan was 8 weeks 2 then when i was meant to be 12 weeks i was 12 weeks 5 so they used my 12 week scan date. A my 22 week scan i was a week ahead but she said she was going to leave it, i don't know why!

Hi

I got told the same thing at my 20 week scan last week - she said I was measuring 5 days ahead but due date not changed (I am very certain of LMP and cycle was always 28/29 days as well). Mind you I am 5'7 and OH is 6'2 so could just be long as someone else said.

I measured ahead also and just asked the doctor today about it as I was concerned she'd be big as well. The doctor said you never really know how big the baby will be because the measurements are just an estimate and they aren't all that accurate. I think babies have growth spurts at different rates as well with big growth spurts and than slowed down growth periodically. I think you'll be fine.
