Just wondering....

Who exactly will be present (apart from your partner or family members/a friend) at the birth of your baby? Will your consultant be there? And your midwife?

As im under hospital care i will have two obstetricians and midwife as im a high risk.

If you see a consultant, they tend to be there.

I've chosen to give birth at the hospital where my OB/GYN practices. It makes me comfortable knowing that in case there's a complication, he knows the staff and the hospital is equipped. Here, we normally see an obstetrician/gynecologist for pregnancies (instead of midwives, which I think are common in the UK) and mine will be at the delivery. Aside from that, I don't know how many other doctors/nurses will be there.

As for my husband, I told him he can be there as long as he doesn't faint so that the nurses won't have to take care of another person lol!

Going by my last births, two doctors, 2 midwives and a paediatrician. Probably a few students.

Ahhhh! That's what I was worrying about! I suppose we all have these silly fears. And my consultant- I met him last week, he was a scary man, I don't want him to look at my poon!

By the time your poon needs looking at, you won't care!

I'm high risk, if everything is normal it will be usually two midwives. One for you and one for baby.

Hey there, I'm on my own in delivery as my DH wont be able to be there and I dont want my mum there (love her to bits but she is so controlling that I'll prob try to kill her). That means that I'll be feeling pretty vulnerable and I'll chase any students who come in. I've no faith in student docs, long story, so they wont be allowed to be in with me. I'm very uncomfortable about that. You have the right to ask for the students (if there are any) to leave, they are only allowed in with your permission so if you dont want them there then they have to leave.

I'm High Risk, but still hope to give birth in the midwife-led Unit, rather than on the labour ward. All being well, if there are no complications, I'll just have midwives there, maybe a couple of students if there are any about who want to be there

I'm hoping to have OH there if he can make it, and probably just 1 or 2 midwives. Don't want students there!! Doctors if needed would be ok tho. x

Lalitas Charm: Awww sweetie, you don't have a good friend or someone that can be there with you? My heart just goes out to you know you'll be alone. Even if the friend is just there to talk to you in between contractions...a long labor can sure get boring! I'm with you though, I'd rather a friend than my mother as she can get a bit annoying (though I do love her to bits).

I'm OK with student doctors being PRESENT, but I've requested for them not to DO anything. Our own OBs were students at some point.

As for who'll be there...I don't even know. Other than my husband, no other family/friends will be there. I'm sure there'll be a doctor there since I'm high risk and I hope that there's a midwife there to hold my hands as Itty-Bitty is making her entrance (because if my first birth is any indicator, my husband will be all about watching our new one come into the world and not about taking care of me -just at that moment though, all the time before and after, he was awesome- and I'm OK with that).
