theres more then 2 types, I have a mei tai and a ring sling!!

Mei tais are very popular they are these..

this is a ring sling

also German Style Woven Wraps are really cool

the one in your second pic is the oldest style and has since been criticised for not given baby enough either skin contact also not veyr comfy for you!

Mei tais and the woven style wraps are the better ones from neweborn as they fit your body perfectly without cuttin into you or pulling your back which can happen with traditional style slings!

the first pic you post are great for newborns as they can lay flat, but I saw a lady with one in asda the other day and i thought the baby looked like it was gonna fall out!!

also::

But::

a pouch-style sling. It is really easy to use, really little learning curve, and can hold babe in a "cradle" hold , they're so easy to get on and babe in; (your first pic)

A ring sling is also along the same lines, but a little different style (instead of being adjustable by snaps or zippers, a ring sling is tightened by using a metal/nylon ring where the fabric is pulled taut and can bring the size and position of the sling up.

A wrap may be another option-- a long piece of fabric with stretch/give is wrapped around the body and babe is wrapped inside they look super supportive (necessary for a newborn's floppy head).

Thats what i thought when looking at pics!!

The other thing i was thinking is that they say you should keep a newborn in a flat pram when out to prevent spine damage, yet the slings which "bend" baby up are OK?!

Well Vici, I have a ring sling, and I love it! I did a fair bit of research before I got mine, and was going to go with a Huggababy ring sling, but when I went to actually buy one, they had a half price offer on a slightly different sort which I thought looked very similar, so I went with that instead
I chose a ring sling because I wanted to it be really easy to slip on and off, I wanted a nice wide variety of choices in terms of what position I could wear it in / carry LO in, and I wanted something that would be easy to use in my wheelchair. I really am happy with my choice, and I'd recommend it! Of course, baby isn't here yet, so it will really be tested when he comes along, but I've tried it on and I really like the different ways that I can use it.

This site was a great help to me in choosing:

hth honey,

Juts added bit more! sorrree!!!!

I think bending babys back is ok in moderation, theres something like a guideline which suggests dont have them in a car seat for more then 2 hours to allow there bones to strech and grow, but how many babies are stuck in baby seats around the house!!
Im sure one of the first slings wont hurt they are supported but not stuctured enough not to allow movement if that makes sense? they can still wiggle and strch etc
also if your brave enough to carry baba in one for more then 2 hours......!! lol

i bought a close baby carrier because it looked quite versatile and i like symmetry (odd, i know) so a sling would drive probably me nuts. te fabric is lovely and soft though.

i'm planning on using a wrap sling, my neighbour uses one and her baby is nearly one! They are versitile and grow with ur LO. They can be used as hip slings for toddlers, on the back, front and as a pounch.
