So Today Ladies, I'm Going To Give My Mummy & Daddy The Biggest Scare Of Their Lives!

This is going to be a fairly long post, I can imagine. So beware.

Tuesday, I went to work placement as normal. The two days previous I hadn't stopped, so was already pretty tired. But thought nothing of it. The baby had a few kicks first thing in the morning, as usual. So my motivation for the day was already awake.

By 11am my motivation had changed. I popped to the toilet and saw blood. Enough to start getting tearful about, very tearful. As my placement is in Birmingham, I was miles away from home. Luckily I work with my Dad though. I rang my Mum, who tried her best to calm me down and reassure me. Try as she might, I was in a mess. She rang my midwife for me. Then ringing me back, again trying not to make me worry but the words 'You have an EMERGENCY scan at 4' didn't ease me. I asked plenty of questions, and to that point my Mum couldn't reply anymore.

I alerted my boyfriend and he rushed up. 4'oclock came and during all that time the baby moved once...Once, when it's normally been an active terror. Once didn't make me feel anymore nice. Every possibility was running threw my mind by this point, OH's too as he was unusually quiet.

Got into the scan and the sonographer decided to make my 20 week scan, my 19 week scan. Which is fine. She told us the baby was in the right position, the placenta too. Then did a further check of the whole baby, everything was fine. Perfect infact, as it's right in the middle stage. Then she looked at it's kidneys and found liquid. She tried to tell me not to worry and it's common, and she can tell the kidneys are working as he/she's bladder was full and needed a weewee.

But she's booked me in for another scan a week on Monday, with a special Dr. I don't know what to think, what to worry. She said it won't make any difference to its life whilst in me...But when it's out it'll have to have a 6 week scan to check. And then what? She told me it could live happily with one kidney. My baby being operated on?

They have no idea what caused the bleed, we heard the heart beat and I even had my blood taken...My biggest fear! Doesn't half make your arm go weak.

So, anyone else experienced this? Could do with some reassuring.

Sorry - I haven't experienced this, but didn't want to just read and run!

It is great news that the scan went well, and I am sure the additional scan is just a precaution.

Make sure you rest and try not to worry too much about everything in the meantime - your mind will start to think all kinds of things - best to wait and speak to the experts

It sounds similar to my sisters first pregnancy, they picked up something like that with my nephews kidneys to do with not transferring liquid properly and said he'd need scans when born, he's now 3.5yrs and has regular check ups with scans and been on antibiotics since he was born but he's perfectly healthy and it doesnt affect him in anyway. Try not to worry x

Hey notsoworried,

i had a small bleed @ 6wks, then a huge heavy bleed at 14/15wks that scared the life out of me. Like you we had a scan and was told all is fine with pickle, but the scan showed 2 biggish pockets of blood so i was to expect more bleeding, if it didnt come with pain i was not to panick!! The bleeding has lasted for 4 wks. I had my 20wk scan yesterday all was excellent with baby, But yet another pocket of blood in a different place!! As they cant tell where its coming from they are going to keep a check on me and i get 2 more scans.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to reassure you that bleeding can happen, but some times for no reason and bubs will be fine. Pm me if you wanna chat some more or if i can be of any help just shout. sending big hugs to you x x
