maternity leave

When are people planning to take their maternity leave? I would like to take it as late as possible so i have longer with bab at the end but am not sure what is realistic.

Hey there, it depends on your job and how you are feeling really. I'm in an office and dont need to do any more than I have to!! I plan to take a week's leave then 2 weeks maternity before my due date. I think that is plenty for me. I'm really lucky if I need to do any running around I'll have 2 temp assistants to get to do that for me!!

I'm off work from 22nd June (earliest date possible) but using 15 days holiday to push the start of mat leave out to 13th July.

40 hour week plus commuting is making me a zombie. Enjoy work more now that I have more hours working from home but still looking forward to being off work. I plan to use the extra 2 months for driving lessons and study.

I'm going to try and work as close as I can up until my due date, maybe 1 or 2 weeks before so then I can have as much time off as possible once baby is born. Money wise I don't know how long I will be able to take off work with Maternity Leave. I am lucky I work in an office so sit on my bum all day and also they are very flexible with me now I am pregnant. If I am ever too sick to come in they will be cool and I can just work from home.

Strangely, I'm going to just take 6 weeks of leave after I give birth. I'd so much rather work and keep my mind off of giving birth for as long as possible. Although, I am going to begin working 8 hour days when I become 28 weeks pregnant (only 8 more weeks, YAY) instead of the 12-13 hour days that I'm working now. UGH! That I'm not going to be sorry to see go!!

I'm finishing on July 11th, so it's 4 weeks before my due date of Aug 11th... but I work freelance so I can decide if and when I go back at all. I think I'd like to, after 6 months, but we'll see.

I accrue holidays according to how many days I work, and currently have 3 to take (I only work 3 days a week anyway) and I should have built up another 3 or so by mid July, so that's effectively an extra 2 weeks' pay. I'll be getting SMP and then Maternity Allowance but that's all.

I could have worked longer but I do some late shifts (5pm-1am, 1pm-9pm) and it gets tiring even now, never mind when I'm 8 months gone.
