Breastfeeding question

Call me a drunk if you want he he, but all I keep thinking about is having a nice cold beer. I plan on breastfeeding, and was wondering the rules with alcohol? I plan on using a breast pump, so I guess I'm curious as to how long the alcohol would be in my system until I could feed from the breast after drinking if that makes sense!

lol i had to ask me mum this one when i had my eldest, she told me to express enough milk for the whole of the next day as baby cant have it from the breast with alcohol in and alcohol stays in your system for 24 hours, also i found when i drank (and i only got drunk the once) my breasts became really engorged and sore.

i have had the occasional beer whilst breast feeding, my son and my baby are both fit and well.
i think you can have what you like in moderation.

Lots of people actually recommend drinking some types of ales while breastfeeding - Guiness, Newcastle Brown Ale or Mackesons - all stout-type drinks as they are so full of vitamins and iron so they are really good for you and not too high in alcohol so as long as you only have one at a time they are fine.

I found this link to the Breastfeeding Network

I used to drink Guinness in the evenings (after Sam was in bed) while I was breastfeeding - they used to advise new mums to take some ale or stout into the hospital to drink after giving birth, as it boosts your supply

The general rule is that if you're sober enough to drive, you're sober enough to breastfeed - obviously if you were going to get very drunk one night, you need to wait until the alcohol is out of your system (as you would if you were driving the next morning) but there's no need to pump for an entire day and throw away the milk. tbh after not drinking all through pregnancy it doesn't take much to make you feel like you've had a few drinks anyway x

Oh God! I know what you mean!

I just got back from Hawaii and I broke down and had a non-alcoholic beer with my dinner one night watching the sunset... It was perfect!

I read somewhere that if you do fancy a drink to have is straight after a feed and then by the time the next feed is due it should have left your system.
