Swinging crib Vs Cot/Cotbed

Is the swinging Crib take place of the cot?

I am confused? How long can a swinging crib last? how long can a cot last? I know a COT BED can grow with the child and lasts for ages but theyre a bit more expensive.

I am tempted to get a swinging one as there is one nearby for sale only £25.. and its not huge so will fit in the spare bedroom 'future nursery' easily and better than a cot or cotbed.

but I am just so confused with it all...
Please shed some light before I go buying something I dont really need and wasting money I may not have for long.

p.s- let me add I already have 2 moses baskets.. one planned for next to my bed, the other for the lounge.
SO do I actually need a cot or crib at all?

If you have moses baskets, I wouldnt imagine you need a crib as well, they serve the same purpose. The baby will be in a crib/moses basket for between 3-6 months, then needs to be moved into a cot or cot bed.

Hope this helps

well if u have 2 moses baskets....i wouldnt buy a crib. PLUS i think that its harder to get baby to sleep anywhere else if its used to being rocked to sleep (hence why im not buying a swinging bouncer chair!) they get used to the rocking motion and then crave that everytime they want to go to sleep!

U can put off buying a cot for a while, but once baby is getting to big for the moses basket u can choose whether to buy a cot, or cot bed. I opted for just a cot, as once they outgrow the cot....the cotbed isnt going to be much use!!

But i suppose everyone has their own opinion, and u just have to go with whats best for you. xxxxx good luck!

I had a look at cribs in Mothercare and although they look lovely I wouldn't want to put a newborn in one cos they don't look as cosy as moses baskets and I think by the time LO outgrows the moses basket you will need a cot, I am going for moses basket then cot.

we've got all 3, a moses basket for downstairs, a swinging crib for our room cause i cot is too big and then a cot bed for the nusery, when we had our first i found a moses basket downstairs to be a god send as all he did was sleep.

The swinging crib isn't that big so i don't think it's going to last over 12 months.

We are going to get a swinging crib for our room until the baby is 6 months old then we will put him in a cot in the nursery. We arent going to bother with a moses basket because we get a carry cot with the travel system we bought. The baby can sleep in this during the day then we can put him in the crib at night.
Everyone is different tho hun, theres no right or wrong answer its just personal preference.

Its personal preference and as Helen says there is no right or wrong answer. We are going to use a moses basket for a few weeks and then into his cotbed in his own room. Take care XX

We haven't got room for a cot or a cot bed, and I don't want to buy a Moses basket since they're only in them a few months (am secretly hoping to borrow one as my sister in law is having her baby in early April, so he'll be 4 months old when mine comes along).

So I'm planning on getting this - http://www.sierradistribution.co.uk/ - for the benefits of co-sleeping without (hopefully) the struggle later of weaning the baby out of my bed (and safer, too, especially because we often co-sleep with our cat). It's smaller than a regular cot but not tiny, it can be used as a travel cot and it can turn into a playpen after.

I didn't know about the swinging cribs/bouncers being a bad idea - I just remember Miranda in Sex and the City borrowing one for Brady and it being a life-saver...

I was going to get a swinging crib but so many people have advised me against them as trying to get a baby to adapt to a cot after being rocked to sleep for months proved to be a nightmare. I think i'll just stick with a moses basket
