MIL from hell??

OMG, went to see MIL today and came away just feeling mad and pi%%ed off to be honest.

i told her we had seen a pram we like and she said you arent buying it now are you and I said well soon yes cos we really want it and why should we wait? She said it would be unlucky and something could happen to the baby if we buy it too early!! I said well we are trying to look on the bright side and not think about anything bad that will happen. She also told me to wait till a month or so before the birth before decorating the nursery?!! WTF? Why, incase something goes wrong....at this point I saiid I was going before I said something I shouldnt. She then looked at my bump and said Oooh your going to be massive, at which point I walked out the door!!

She has now made me feel really worried abot going out and buying anything!! We are really excited and she just seemed to have changed all that! Dont know if im over reacting or if its hormones?!

Sorry just needed to let off steam, cant say anything to DH cos he will stick up for her. Does anyone else think its too early at 17 weeks to buy things??!!

Helen

She is just spouting old wives tales. If you want to buy things then go ahead. It's your baby.

Totally agree, if you want to buy something then buy it, god knows why some people are this way! just smile to yourself about the way she is & enjoy being excited about your growing miracle together on your own x

i'ts your little angel and whatever you think is in the best interest of the LO, she should enjoy the experience with you instead of telling you what you should or shouldn't do.

Apparently...according to my mom...back in the old days (lol), the women would go to the hospital and the man would go out and pick the stuff up they needed...??? WTF? That would never work now...I know here most people had a lot less money, so they didn't even end up getting that much. I know my mom was hesitant with my sister getting things for her baby as well...which I thought was weird. How long do they expect you to wait! If I were you I'd say go for it! Just ignore her...
Oh and my MIL is the opposite...she's already looking at stuff to buy...but doesn't even feel the need to talk to me about it. She mentioned in passing that she was going to buy us a playpen...which is the very very LAST thing I need. I live in a 2 bedroom, 1 story condo...there's no room and the crib is down the hall! Grrrrr!! I told her we don't need one, but knowing her she'll get it anyway...oh well as long as it has a receipt! lol.

Its your baby and are entitled to buy what you want, when you want.

In laws are a sore subject with me. They just seem to think they can dictate everything.

Just put your foot down and do what you want.

Thanks guys, I know it was different back in her day but she doesnt need to put a downer on this for us. Im quite a positive person and always try to look on the bright side, I dont want to go around thinking what if something happens!
If we want to buy the bloody pram we will!! and anything else we want to!

Meddling mother in law, who needs them! She has no right to make you feel so insecure, unless she can be positive and supportive then I wouldn't update her on what is going on.
