Uterine fibroid (Myoma)

I went to the doc today for what I thought to be a bladder infection but to my surprise it appears to be a intramural uterine fibroid (non cancerous tumor in the wall of the uterus) of about 2cm. Its extremely painful unfortunately as it somehow irritates my bladder...
Doc says the baby is not in danger due to this but obviously I m very scared.
Has anyone else had uterine fibroids ?

Also found a video that might be interesting :

I'd be lying if I told you not to be scared, but please try not to worry. If the baby isn't in danger, that's better right? Now, how are you going to be? Do they remove it once you deliver, or does it just dissapear hun?

Hi I had a huge fibroid removed over a year ago it was the size of fist. But you are lucky and the baby is ok so all you can do is rest more. I understand the pain it is like someone stabbing you but as long as the baby is ok and you do not have any bleeding then all will be good. the pregnancy will not help as the hormones will make it grow but totaly worth it at the end. then you will get the help you need to remove it.

Good luck and remeber to rest more

xx

Hi Tammi,

I have one that was causing me painful heavy periods, I asked my Consultant about removing it and he told me that it wouldn't cause problems during pregnancy but may cause scare tissue damage if he removed it and as we were TTC he said it would be best left alone for now.

I had early scans and it measured 2.5cm I was told that it may grow during the first 12 weeks due to HCG hormones it was again measured at 10 weeks at 2.6cm so it had only grown a little. They have also been known to shrink in pregnancy.

On my last scan it couldn't be seen at all? Baby was fine and I was told that mine is positioned in an awkward place which may mean a possible Cerseran Section but only because mine like I say was in an awkward position. I would rather not have this but if baby comes out healthy then that's what's more important.

I have my 20 week scan in 3 weeks time so will see if it is anywhere to be seen then. It's good that they are aware of it though beforehand.

xx

I have two fibroid s. One is about 2cm and the other is 6cm! They only found the 6cm one when I had a bleed at 9 weeks and I will be under a consultant for the rest of my pregnancy. My midwife told me not to worry, it just might cause more pain as my uterus grows and the consultant may just do some more scans to keep an eye on it and to make sure it is not growing any larger. I see my consultant 2nd March so will hopefully have more answers then. On my last scan the fibroid s hadn't grown any larger, so I am not worried.

Hi Tammi,
I have 2 fibroids. I was also told I would be put under consultant care.
Had my dating scan yesterday with my Consultant and I feel like he fobbed me off.
He didn't measure the fibroids and just said everything looked fine and he won't need to see me until i'm due. Which i'm a bit annoyed at as I would feel better knowing they are being monitored, and to see what the implications are for a natural birth.
When I asked about pain he said there won't be any, which I've been told my other doctors and consultants prior to this pregnancy to expect some discomfort.

However on a positive note I went to see a Consultant about them before I became pregnant and he said that most women go on to have successful pregnancies with fibroids.
