Heartburn

Hi all, i started getting heartburn around 11 weeks and it wasn't too bad but recently its become a much more permanent event and is getting worse all the time. It seems to come on after i brush my teeth, especially in the eve which is frustrating. The books say to sleep propped up to make it better, but that makes my back ache worse! Its time i went to the knackers yard...

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to take? I'm keen to avoid over the counter/prescription meds if i can and I'm vegan so drinking milk isnt an option either.

Feel like i've had every possible ailment in the last 10 weeks since getting that bfp. Still - I cant complain too much, lets just hope all this equals a healthy baby! x

Gaviscon, and lots of it!
I'm downing it lately, go to your DRs and get it on perscription, I recommend the Aniseed flavour, yum (:

I was the same but finally gave in and my midwife gave me a massive bottle of Gaviscon. Best to take it after a meal because it doesnt work once the burning starts.

Since i started using it ive had brilliant nights of sleeping and i feel so much more energetic.

i swear by gaviscon...though i don't like the liquid form so chew the tablets instead!

if you're really keen to try and avoid over the counter stuff i'd suggest you could try having small meals spaced out during day, relaxing for 30 mins before eating to settle your stomach, sitting upright after eating, sleeping at a slightly elevated angle too, avoid acidic food and fatty foods (things like fry ups)

i'm sure if you google it there'll be more advice out there...

I'm not a big fan of gaviscon so I've been taking fruit rennies - they are fantastic, just like fruit sweets and recently I got Rennie Liquid on prescription from the doc. Still mint flavoured but works in about 30 seconds. No lie!

Gaviscon huh? Thanks for the thread! When I get it, it's so bad. But I know before I eat something if I'll get it or not. My own fault!
