Pain in my butt literally....

So I am 13 weeks preg. today and I am having this pain in the middle of my left butt cheek which shoots down my left leg... what it feels like is like there is a kink on that side.. I can't sit cross legged on the floor. When I pack my 2year old around the pain gets so much more intense . Has anyone had pain like this and does anything make it better?

Sounds like sciatica (pressure on your sciatic nerve). Mine feels like I need to 'crack' my hip bone.

Speak to your mw who will send you to see a physio and you know your not supposed to sit cross legged anyway? It's bad for your circulation and puts strain on your pubic bone (which has ligiments that are easily strained and they hurt).

I find that walking usually eases it off.

It is sciatica, I suffer from this normally but it has flared up again since since I got my BFP.
If you are uncomfortable in bed sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs - it really helps.
Also try not to lift anything - hard when you have a 2yr old - but it can make it worse.
Sit with a rolled towel behind your lower back to keep your back straight, and one easy exercise is to sit up straight, then slouch, then sit straight, then slouch ....over and over again - it helps the muscles in your lower back.

I find pain killers don't really work as it's a nerve pain. Do speak to your doc or mw as it is a common preg condition.

Hope it doesn't last too long xxx

Hey, here's a quote from the Wikipedia definition of Sciatica...

"Although sciatica is a relatively common form of low back pain and leg pain, the true meaning of the term is often misunderstood. Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve, causing the pain. This point is important, because treatment for sciatica or sciatic symptoms will often be different, depending upon the underlying cause of the symptoms."

I post it cos it may well be sciatica, but it might be as well for you to look to the possible causes of this flare-up: For me, it is the Sacro-Iliac joint (near where the leg/hip meets the bum/back on each side) My left side has flared up in pregnancy, and I am seeing a physio who can correct it. From your description of the pain (the original bum-pain, rather than the shooting-down-the-leg pain!) it sounds to me like it could be the same for you... My physio has given me exercises to try to alleviate this, and she has told me that sitting cross-legged and heavy lifting are both definite no-nos... Must be very hard with a little one to avoid the lifting, but do try to take it easy! If it gets much worse, you could try to get referred to a physio too.

Shadow x

That happens to me. It's a pinched nerve, and usually cracking my hip helps. Otherwise stretching and 'walking it off' works.

I've heard that there are some stretches that can give some relief to this condition.. does anyone know where I can find them... and did they or do they work for any of you?
