Sudafed - What are your thoughts?

So I have had the worst flu I have ever had for years.

I have been bed ridden for days and today was my first day back at work. It was hell. My nose is so sore & red, I could give rudolph a run for his money

Anyway I have now got to the stuffy stage, where its turned into sinusitis. Its agony and causing me to lose my balance. I have pain in my ears, cheeks and across the bridge of my nose.

So my question is, can I take sudafed? I have done a bit of digging, and the general consensus appears to be if the benefits outweigh the risks, then its okay?? But what the hell is that supposed to mean?? I just want some relief so I can sleep, cos I am working all day tomorrow too and really dont want to suffer any more than I need to.

Thanks for reading
xx

Well I had this before Christmas, and then a throat infection after Christmas and both times the doctor said no to anything other than paracetamol and steam baths. The pharmacist was also very strict with me about what I could and could not buy (I was only allowed a very mild cough mixture which was basically honey and lemon!!!)
The doctor said that before 2nd trimester its very rare that the benefits would outweigh the risks sorry hon, but better safe than sorry. Having said that I have a really understanding boss who insisted I take a whole week off work to recover. I'd have been tempted if I'd had to go in work.
Rest hon.

I had flu too, bedridden for a week. I got amoxycillan as an antibiotic which is safe for pregnancy and was told to buy menthol crystals from the chemist and put them in a bowl of water. Stick your head over the bowl with a towel covering and breathe in to help clear the sinises. I personally looked up sudafed and decided to steer clear. Flu has to take it's course, all you can do is relieve the symptoms. Xxxx

Thanks guys. I figured that this would probably be the case.

However, right at this moment I feel like I am getting to the stage where I will try anything, just to relieve this agony. I know I would regret it dearly if I were to take it against medical advice, so common sense will prevail I am sure. Its just so hard when you cant see the end.

I am just feeling sorry for myself - I will go and get some hot buttered toast, that normally cheers me up. I just hope I can taste it!

Ask your doctor... They will be able to recommend the safest option. I feel for you though, it's rubbish.

Investigate a 'neti' pot which basically swills your sinuses with salt water. It sounds revolting but I have friends who swear by it, and of course it doesn't involve adding any chemicals to your (and the baby's) system.
