Excercise

Hi All

I always cycle to work - between 8 to 20 miles a day and am giving up due to the fact that I've been knocked off a few times and I do NOT trust motorists.... normally I don't care and just get on with it, but it's not just about me now.

I'm very "anti-gym" and would prefer not to attend a gym, but I'm really missing the excersize, the fun and feeling physically fit. What else should I take up to fill this gap? Cycling has been my only experience of excersize my whole life!!! (Believe it nor not). And everywhere says not to take up something new - but I know the importance of keeping fit and maintaining the flexibility I have.

Any advice?

I do Pilates which is great for fitness but is low impact so perfect for during pregnancy. I am also going to start aqua aerobics in a few weeks as I did that during my last pregnancy and it was fab!
I would also recommend swimming as that is the perfect exercise when you are expecting.

Thanks Leanne. It's the cardio I'll miss. Cycling was effortless and I'm already puffing and panting when walking up hills. Scary how quick you can lose fitness...

Re swimming I would love to but chlorine doesn't mix well with my skin. Would a chlorine free pool cause any issues for the pregnancy? (Infections etc)

PS. Good luck next week Leanne. How has your pregnancy been so far?

Thank you! I'm not sure about a chlorine free pool, your midwife might be able to help with that.

I am just coming out of the ms stage now which is a huge relief! Starting to feel more like my old self. Can't wait to see our little bean next week!

How about you? Xx

Nothing major as it's early days... very mild nausea but secretly hoping for a sign that all's good and going strong! Eg. MS etc. Is it strange not to have it now? Only 4.5 weeks at the mo...

No, perfectly normal so don't worry. Mine didn't start until around 6 weeks and that was nausea. Then I had a few weeks of actually throwing up.
This is my third pregnancy and the only time I have had ms. I didn't get any with my first two.

Do you run? Great cardio and you can go off the beaten path away from cars. That's what I do anyways and plan to run until I'm due

I could cycle 50 miles without any training but can't run down the road! Also hyper mobile so running isn't good for me.

I've stopped cycling for the same reason - I have a tendency to fall off all by myself!

I'm really missing riding my bike, although since my bfp I've had zero energy and I've been puffing just walking around. I don't feel like doing anything at the moment.

When the 1st trimester fatigue and sickness goes I'm planning on getting a turbo trainer so I can keep up my cycle fitness indoors. Also planning on some pregnancy yoga.
