Doppler, yes or no?

I've gotta wait 3 weeks until my first midwife appt and I can't stop worrying about whether baby is okay or not. I've considered getting a doppler but my OH and my mother have said it's a bad idea because:

a) I'll panic and have a mental breakdown if i can't find heartbeat
b) If i do have heartbeat I will become far too obsessed and have it attached to me 24/7.

What are peoples experiences, is it worth getting one or is it better to wait till my appointments?

6 weeks I've had a few friends that have heard their HB at 6 weeks without a problem, I just know I will flip the hell out if it doesn't go right.

I wouldn't, couldn't find mine at all till 12 weeks and after that I'm only just finding it every time at 20 weeks. I think it may just end up worrying you more . My mw won't even look till 20 weeks.

Some people get lucky and find it earlier, I was not one of them haha. I only bought it because I knew I wouldn't worry if I couldn't find it. xxx

Yeah good point, I worry about everything, I need to take my mind off it and relax. Easier said than done though!

6 weeks is FAR too early to reliably hear a heartbeat - are you sure it wasn't their own heartbeat they were hearing?

I have one and have used it 5 times, I didn't hear the heartbeat the first two times (13 and 14 weeks) however I heard it for the first time myself at 17 weeks (this was after hearing it at the 16 week midwifes appointment and then knowing where to locate it - I wasn't far enough down still).

If it will stress you out not being able to find the heartbeat then don't get one.
