when to switch to maternity clothes?

I have noticed that a lot of my clothes are gettin a bit tight for me, but I don't think I'm showing yet, it's hard to tell as I have a belly anyway

Anyway I do feel quite bloated though so maybe that causing it?

I was looking for a pair of comfy trousers yesterday in the sales and saw a pair of maternity combats so I got them, but they're too big and make me look sillymy normal size felt too small!!

I'm only 9 weeks gone!

I was lucky with my first, i went up to about 25 weeks still in my own clothes then i just ballooned over night, i even started to wear my husbands jeans he's got a 38" waist, i didn't bother with maternity clothes i just wore trackies for another 15 weeks and flip flops as my ankles were huge.

I think it will depend on you and how you feel you may be better with the elasticed pants for now.

I'm half in maternity clothes and half in my normal clothes (the trousers that used to be baggy lol)...

Others have been in mat clothes since round about the same time as you.

Seriously, just wear whatever makes you comfortable - that's the most important thing. My waist started thickening out round about wk12 but my bump was still kinda non existant so I got a few pairs of trousers the next size up and they still fit now - maybe you could get a couple of cheap bigger sizes to last until mat clothes fit properly.

I always get stuck in the inbetween stage where your normal stuff is too small but maternity is too big. I have drawstring trousers or joggers etc to wear that can be stretchy enough to wear until the mat clothes fit better.

I think everyone is different. Some people show early on and some don't show even up until well into the Second Trimester - especially in a first pregnancy. You probably are experiencing the water retention common in the first trimester which is very common. The baby does not rise above the pelvic bone until about 12 weeks. However, if you are uncomfortable you should definately invest in some comfy clothes. I wouldn't advise spending too much on maternity clothes yet as your shape will change again. I know some girls who have spent so much money on maternity clothes early on, just to have to replace them in the next couple of months.

A few good tips to make your pre-pregnancy clothes last for a while:

* an elastic band that you can attach to your trouser buttons to help stretch the waistband whilst wearing a baggy/long top over it.
* a band bump that you can buy from places like Jojo maman bebe
* long tops!

I bought maternity clothes a couple weeks ago. I figure there's no point in being uncomfortable, so I just went for it. I haven't had to wear any of the maternity shirts yet, but I haven't worn my "old" pants since about 8 weeks.

I think you should buy them whenever you feel like you'd be comfy in them!!
There are some great jeans you can buy that will be great for after the pregnancy too before you get back to your normal size again! I bought jeans, pants and some tops and they are all cute, and could be worn after

I am gonna hold out as long as possible! I have actually lost weight since I got my , I used to drink lots of wine before and I think that's why!! I am panicking though cos my employers have just decided that we should wear the suits we sell in our factory outlet as a uniform (they are providing them free of charge) and since I haven't told them I am pg yet I don't know what to do - I don't want to waste their money getting clothes that won't fit me in a couple of weeks!!

I was so bloated from so my jeans got tight early on so I sed a hair elastic looped through button and hole.

I also bought some mat jeans which I wore outside of work(since noone knew and we get changed in a big changing room so people would see!)

I say as long as your comfy you wear what you like whenever you like!

I think I was in mat stuff from about 8 weeks and fully when everyone at work found out at 12 weeks.

I'm also bloated out alot too, but most of my clothes are getting too small. I think i might be in maternity trousers soon but for now i'm wearing jog pants with drawstring waists. Even then though i can feel them getting a little tight as the day goes on. I think i may start showing sooner though as i'm pregnant with twins.
