| What's the RDA of folic acid???? I thought it was 400mg which is what i'm taking but I phoned the midwife to see if I should increase my dose (DH's mother has spina bifida) and she told me that the RDA of 500 mg is sufficient......

| 400mcg but sometimes they recommend more. Just make sure you're getting 400 at least. | | | | Status: Online

| the recommended supplement is 400 but a lot of pre-natal vitamins have 700 as you're meant to have 700 a day and gain the additional 300 from foods like brussel sprouts. if you go to the santanogen website it explains on there | | | | Status: Offline

| Im on 500mg as i am on anti-epileptic medication so there a higher risk of spina bifida/downs syndrome but i think if you have a normal low risk pregnancy then the recommended dose is 400mg | | | | Status: Offline

| My prenatals have four hundred per tablet and direct to take two, so I'm getting eight hundred per day. Odd since that's above the general recommendation, but I've looked it up, and taking more than four hundred isn't harmful in any way. In fact, if you're at a high risk for spina bifida etc, than they often have you take a thousand or more. I should also be taking a bit extra anyway because I'm overweight- it kind of depends on your body type and your risk level for how much you need to take. For an average weight, low risk pregnancy four hundred should be fine, especially if you're also making sure to eat foods containing folic acid as well. Many breads and cereals have folic acid added to them, and vegetables are a great source as well. | | | | Status: Offline

| yes, i also take 2 tablets a day each 400mg.............as directed by my dr.
and also when i went to buy them to chemist shop.......sales girl asked me how many times do you take these tablets......once or twice a day..
she said 2 times is the right and 1 tablet a day is not enough.........i am not overweight.......so it seems very confusing if each dr. on different place is different......i live in switzerland.... | | | | Status: Offline
