Anyone still smoking?

Hi everybody

I am curious to know who is still smoking and does anyone have plans to stop. I am now 13 weeks and have had first scan and midwife appointment and all is going well but I am desperate to give up and haven't succeeded yet. I know people have strong feelings re. smoking in general. I have cut down alot from 20 a day to 5 or less but can't seem to kick the rest. I am doing this willpower alone at the moment admittedly. Some days I don't have any, another day maybe about 6! With my first pregnancy stopping was no problem due to morning sickness but this pregnancy is the exact opposite.

Any advice from other mums to be in the same position as myself would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hu Hun, I'm in the same position i have cut down from my 20+ a day to anywhere between 5 - 10 which if we are honest 1 is too many, I too am doing it on will power alone and like you some days i dont smoke at all. I know people say think of your baby and that will make you stop but i'm finding doing that harder than it sounds, because this pregnancy doesnt feel real to me yet (stupid i know) i've not experienced many sypmtoms and no MS yet either which i was hoping would help me stop.

I have my first early private scan on Thursday and I know that seeing the baby even if its only a little blob will give me something to fix on, somthing real that will help me stop.

I dont think it helped that the doc told me to cut down and stop if i can, before week 12. I think somehwere in my mind i keep using this as a crap excuse that 12 weeks is ages away yet...

I'm appalled at myself and know others will be appalled too, but I want to stop and i dont want to harm my baby, its just harder than it looks!

Good Luck to you and anyone else brave enough to admit there not perfect!

I am exactly the same cut down but finding it hard to stop completly even though i seen blob today, i have had no morning sickness yet either. Ashamed to admit but i smoked through my last pregnancy and had no problems with birth weight/prem labour etc although i know that is no excuse, Is there any tips on stopping altogether without gum/patches etc.... x

i really dont want to sound like a right b**ch here, but its quite hard for me to understand where u r coing from because i have never smoked, but couldnt you think of things like, would you give your baby a cigarette when its born, would u smoke in the same room as it or blow smoke in its face??? would thinking of things like that help you stop now, because its much worse being passed directly through your body???
i really dont want to offend anyone by saying that sorry, i know nhs do run a service that is supposed to give you tips advice and help have you tried that???

No you are quite right. No-one will be allowed to smoke near baby etc. but the craving for the nicotine takes you over sometimes. Even if my 13 year old came home and I found out he was smoking I would go crazy at him! I am lucky in that I don't drink caffeine etc. which is not good for baby either. It is a very addictive drug and is very hard to give up. I also have a stressful job which doesn't help, again no excuse, will defo try hard!!!

It is so nice to hear some of these words from women in the same position. Thank you so much. Even the words from Lisa C25 were quite right. It is very hard and although every time I have one I keep thinking "No I shouldn't be doing this" and cut myself up even more. I have tried the patches and to be honest I would think the strange dreams etc. some people pay money to be on drugs for that!! I spoke to my midwife who was very supportive and will help me so I am to attend my local pharmacy to see what they can offer. Will keep you all updated because we all know we shouldn't be doing it, but it is not easy at all.

As soon as I found out I quit smoking, I have never been able to quit tried so many times before and now well no more smoking for 3 months. Though I deffinetly crave them, expecially since all my friends smoke ( not around me though). Good luck everyone to quit smoking ! ( Though my stress level went through the roof, or that just came with the pregnancy not too sure )

Its not easy, so well done to all of you who have cut down and are helping yourselfs to quit
I guess i couldnt have been addicted as i thought! Lol, which can only be a good thing... I think whats helped me more then anything is not going out drinking or seeing as many friends who smoke now- my 'clubbing' crew! lol
