Soo annoyed, Manager broke confidence

Hi, just found out today that 1 of my managers has told my other manager that I am pregnant despite me telling him that it was to be kept a secret and him saying fair enough and saying that he would not tell anyone. I felt I had to tell him as I do a job that could have been risky but he said it wasnt.

They are all ready sorting out the person who will do my work while I am off and I have to train him after my christmas holidays. I wont finish work till July!

So so angry at him right now. I expected that if I told him something in confidence he would respect that.

I'd be angry too - that sucks. Has he given any reason; for instance insurance policies etc? If not then could you make a complaint to his superior or HR?

Havent spoken to him but I have spoke to the manager who found out and he said the manager "felt he had to say something"

Was too angry to go and speak to the manager who told. Just left work and came home.

Dont know whether I am more upset at him breaking my confidence or them already lining up my replacement which could look suspicious to everyone else

I would be pretty irritated as well.. what is your job? Honestly, bosses say it isn't a risk to your pregnancy even if it is... well in my experience, that is why I ask...

GRRRR!!! I hear you! I had the same thing happen - asked him not to tell until I was at least in second tri, but he told the other manager, who obviously didn't hear to be discreet, so she came running out and grabbed me and screamed "CONGRATULATIONS" down the hallway and hugged me. About 5 people saw, so now most of the office knows. So much for waiting until 2nd tri! They already have 2 ideas in mind for my mat leave position too, but I'm not too upset about this as I really want someone good to take over so it doesn't lose momentum when I get back. Still SHEESH! One of my colleagues (female) went to the male boss and gave him heck for it, so I feel at least a bit vindicated!

GRRRRRR! They just don't understand!

They are not lining up your replacement, they are just trying to find somebody who can try to live up to your high standards and look after your job for you whilst you temporarily take a break to do something more important.

If you know who will be filling in for you then you can make sure you train them so your job is as easy as possible for you to go back to.

How annoying! *hugs* I'd be soo cross to!

I never told anyone at work till I'd had my scan....and my managers haven't even asked when I plan to leave or anything! Lol Guess they wll need to talk to me at some point!

Joeyjo is right thoguh... with you having a long time to train your stand in, you can make sure they do it your way so when you come back you can slip straight back into your job with ease

I would be too chick! That's out of line what he has done and he shouldn't get away with it! I have to admit that i'm not planning of telling my work until after my first scan because theyre all gossipers and it would definately get out!

xx

I've told a few of my closest co-workers but am not telling any management until after 14 weeks (which is, conveniently enough, a few weeks after my annual review).
