Mums of twins, need advice please!

Hi all,

I went for an early scan today, I thought I was 6+5 but when we had a look there was no heartbeat. We also saw two sacs, one which had a fetalpole (but no visible heartbeat) and the other looked kind of empty. The woman said that I am/was pregnant with twins and only time will time whether twin 2 will develop or be reasorbed. They took my bloods and will re-take them again on sunday. Then she said she will arrange another scan dependinng on the blood results .

Has anyone had an early scan and seen one twin smaller than the other and gone on to keep both? I just don't want to get my hopes up that I may be having twins and lose twin 2 but I also don't want to completely block twin 2 out like they never existed, does that make sense?

I am hoping to have at least one healthy baby but two would be double the blessing!!

i don't have twins of my own but do look after them and i know the little boy that i look after was always smaller than the little girl and infact all the way through they said he would not make it all but is now very noisy toddler! i know this isn't quite the same s your situation but might offer a little bit of hope.

really hope all goes well for you! xx

kittiekat - hi hon. So happy for you that you have been blessed with twins - and I really hope they both thrive. I know that 6 weeks is still quite early - and while some mums do see a heartbeat, fetal pole etc, some do not. That is why they usually wait til later for a scan, unless there are any worries.
Again - big hugs. Really hope those HCG levels are through the roof and doubling! xx

i really hope it works out ok honey...my sis had a 'vanishing twin' for her second pregnancy where she had two to begin with but one didn't develop and was absorbed by the other during first trimester but unfortunately all you can do is wait and see...i imagine its heartbreaking to think of

Kittiekat, I don't have any experience but sadly I do seem to hear a good bit about vanishing twins so I'm just hoping they both appear soon and continue till term to be healthy!

Sorry but I am of no use wither but to say that twins are notoriously smaller anyway and it depends on the equipment the hospital had and lots of other things too. Don't despair until everything is confirmed with another scan hun. Some of the mums have scan of single pregnancies at 6 weeks and they can't find anything in there. They go back for later scan and things are more clear. It happened to Porkpie hun and hers is just one baby. So just keep up hoping and I will await your scan results from next time xxx
