Caffeine

I've already given up drinking and smoking and now I'm wondering if I need to stop drinking diet coke as well. Anyone else given up on caffeine?

I've given up drinking coffee hun, still drink tea but only one in the morn and one in the aftrenoon. I dont really drink fizzy drinks, just water and squash but if you cant do without it why not get some Zero Caffeine coke? I'm sure i've seen that in the shops, they come in black cans xxx

I've seen the gold cans of diet coke which are caffeine free. I suppose I'll have to start drinking that.

I have cut out all caffeine apart from chocolate

I used to drink red bulls and diet coke, but have given them up completely.

I did read somewhere that Diet Coke is actually really bad to drink in pregnancy as it has artificial sweetners in it, which are not good for the developing baby.

I've cut down on caffeine, but still have the odd coffee or diet coke - I've been drinking peppermint tea instead. According to the Food Standards Agency's 'eating while you're pregnant' guide the doc gave me, you can safely drink 300 mg a day. Each of these contains roughly 300 mgs:

3 mugs of instant coffee (100 mg each)
4 cups of instant coffee (75 mg each)
3 cups of brewed coffee (100 mg each)
6 cups of tea (50 mg each)
8 cans of cola (up to 40 mg each)
4 cans of energy drink (up to 80 mg each)
8 bars of chocolate, weighing 50 g each (up to 50 mg each)

So, if you eat a bar of chocolate and drink 3 cups of tea, a can of cola and a cup of instant coffee in one day, you'll have reached 300 mg of caffeine.

Hopefully this will help you all - it's certainly heloed me. I'd never drink anywhere near my 300 mg daily allowance, but it has helped me realise that the odd morning coffee or a can of diet coke in the afternoon is OK. Oh and of course all those hot chocolates that I'm constantly craving!

I've switched to decaffinated tea but only drink about 3 a day max. I've tried really hard to give up diet cola but haven't managed it, but I have cut down a lot! Maybe only 3/4 cans a week at most instead of at least 5/6 cans per week and 1/2 2ltr bottles!!

It's been hard though, every now and again I get a craving

If you fancy something fizzy, why dont you try Sprite as that is caffeine free. Sorry to jump on your thread as I am only TTC but thought this might help. I have cut out all caffeine drinks and just drink Sprite when I fancy a fizzy, and that seems to work for me.
