Where did you position your doppler to get hb? + ebay reccomendation ***UPDATED***

I am 10+3 according to my calculations and have just bought a Hi bebe doppler. I spent ages yesterday hunting around for heart beat but cant find it yet?
For the people who have managed to pick up a hb early on, where on your belly did you put the doppler and do you have any tips on finding it?

P.S for those of you who are thinking of buying one... I would reccomend http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Fetal-Doppler-Specialists on ebay. I ordered my Doppler on thursday afternoon and it arrived with my post on Friday morning. Really fast delivery.

try really low down, right above your pubic bone, thats where i got mine!! And using lots of gel seems to help too. I think those first few times you try it patience is the key lol it can take a while

Hey hun, I bought the exact same one earlier this week from the same people!!

I was 9w 6d when I first found it, it took me an hour or so but eventually I found it.

Try using quite a lot of gel and postition the doppler low down like polo said and move the stick forwards/ backwards/side to side very slowly. If nothing move the stick a little either way and repeat this step, you have to move very slowly or you may miss it.

The babys h/b will sound like galloping horses and it really does!

I listen for mine evryday and it can take me a while to find it but I do eventually.

ps. did you get the one with digi display? as it can sometimes give you a clue if you are nr the h/b as little heart flashes faster!
Good Luck xxx

Try real low down hun , Press firmly (Not to harm but just a bit firm) .
Move round in circles normal pointing downwards towards your bone is a good position , Lots and lots of gel ... Normal more to the left or right not far above pubic bone , Try not to have trapped wind Lol , I know sounds silly but that dissorts sound allot .
Good luck . Keep hunting . xx .

At your stage, baby will be low down and so you need to angle the probe down and behind the pubic bone. Use lots of gel as it eases the transmission of the ultrasound waves. Try not to move the probe about on your tummy, but rather change the angle you're pointing it at - that cuts down on static and makes it easier to hear. Baby can turn in the womb and you may not hear the heartbeat in the same place 2 days running - mine moved from left to right in 24 hours. The heartbeat will be above 140 beats per minute - time it for 10 seconds and multiply by 6 to get the heart rate. Unless something isn't right, your HB should be below 100 so you should be able to tell them apart. Your iliac arteries are down there and it's easy to pick up your own heartbeat through them.

If you don't get a HB within 10 minutes, try again later on - we know ultrasound seem safe used in small quantities for scans but there have been no studies to show what using ultrasound for long periods of time does to baby. I try to use mine for less than 10 mins a day - and usually use it for 2 mins a day - when I know the outcome of my placental bleed (scan in 10 days time) I'll use it much less often but at the moment, it's nice to have that daily reassurance that the bleed hasn't extended enough to stop baby's heart.
