Fibroids

Okay. Where shall I start?

Ten days ago I had a scan in the EPU at hospital and it revealed a very active baby with a healthy heartbeat. It also showed that I have a fibroid measuring approx 7cm (already bigger than baby) at the top of my uterus, which is bleeding internally. I haven't had any external bleeding or spotting, which is a good sign.

I'm due back for another scan this Friday to monitor the growth of the baby and of the fibroid but the pain I have had over the last few weeks on my right side low down by my pelvic bone seems to be getting a lot worse and more often in timing.

I know I shouldn't worry and I've spoken to women who've had fibroids during their pregnancies and have been absolutely fine, but I was just wondering if there was anyone here who has had them during pregnancy and how they actually felt?

Thanks girls xx

Good luck with the scan tomorrow Spoo. I have fibroids too - not sure how they will impact on my pregnancy. Up until 5 weeks I had lots of pains and wondered whether the fibroids were the cause, or just my uterus doing some stretching and maybe made worse by it being retroverted. I guess I will have to wait for my scan in 2 weeks.

Keep me posted on your scan tomorrow and what they say.

Jo

I was found to have two at my 20 wk scan - one a small 3cm one but the other was 15cms!! They were probably there before I got pregnant but the hormones during pregnancy cause them to grow. I had a specialist appt yesterday and was told that because it is at the top of my uterus it won't cause problems with a vaginal delivery but may cause baby to lie transverse instead of head down which would mean a c sect. I have had two times now where I have had a very intense pain where the fibroid is but haven't done anything about it, although I was told yesterday that I shouldn't disregard any pain from it. I've been told that any problems are rare and the fibroids should shrink down after having baby - the biggest problem is that I'll be bigger than most woman! (Yes, have already been asked many times "am I sure it's not twins!?!") Good luck with your scan and make sure you mention the pain to them when you go and see what they suggest you do if it continues. On the bright side, they will give you more scans that the average woman gets, so more chances to see bubs!

Thanks guys. It really is reassuring to hear from your experiences.

Well, I have just come back from the hospital and I have great news. I'm still so choked typing this as the baby was kicking his feet and waving his little arms at me! The nurse took her time and got carried away admiring this little miracle growing inside me. I can't believe how active he was! After a few minutes he fell asleep but the change in the last fortnight was amazing. He looks like a real baby now!

The fibroid hasn't grown at all since my last appointment and the bleeding has stopped on its own. The nurse still isn't sure what the pain is but I've taken paracetomol once or twice for it, and its really helped. I did mention about the pains getting stronger and more regular but as everything else seems absolutely fine, I have been discharged!

Oh I'm so happy now

My son was born on 3 August. A fibroid was discovered during a scan and it grew during my pregnancy. However, they just kept an eye on it and my son was born a healthy 8 pounds.
