Which way will they do it?

Afternoon ladies,

I have my first scan next wednesday at 2pm.

The midwife sent for it as my dates say i am 14 weeks+ now but i know for sure i can't be no more than 7-8 weeks right now. The reason for the mix up is that i was on CD 78 when i got my BFP. Anyway i told the MW all of this but she wants a scan to double check, which is fine. I was just wondering tho, will they be able to see the ickle baby doing a normal external scan if i'm only 8 weeks or will they need to go internal? Must admit i'll not be a happy bunny if they need to do that, i mean i know that all the dignity goes in labour but thats different, your in pain and would ley anyone look up there if you think they could make the pain stop or get the baby out

I'm not a prude or anything, i just don't like it, i'm sure most of you are the same.

Any way, the question (incase you got lost off in my ramble)

As early as 8 weeks will they scan internal or external and what can i expect to see....heart beat perhaps?

I had a external scan at 6 weeks and 9 weeks so you should be fine. I have had an internal once and hated it. With my first scan at 6 weeks I saw a little blob and a heartbeat it was amazing. xx

Hey i had the belly one and they thought i was 7 weeks (i was 8 and a half!) i could see the baby clear as day and the two little pieces of its heart going like the clappers - I also heard it - 178 bpm - amazing!

They did that first and then if that was no good they were going in! which my best mate kinda got panicky about as she'd come with me and she wasn't sure she was ready for our friendship to go to a whole new level but there the baby was clear as day! :-)

It'll probably be external at 8 weeks, mine was. You should be able to see the heartbeat too

i think 8 weeks will be an external. They might try an external and if that doesn't work try an internal. They don't go in unless they have to because of the risk of infection. Good luck at your scan

I've had 4 internal scans not with this preg but with the one I m/c and your right their not nice...they hadn't been brought into my hospital 5 years ago when I had my dd so I was shocked when I had to have them done. They not that bad though, and I am majorly squemish, and weird bout stuff like that I hate smears etc. They nothing as bad as a smear test and the rod thing they use is quite small. The only reason that they had to do the internal on me was after they did the abdominal one ans they couldn't see any baby, so hopefully you won't need one.

We had an early external scan at 6wks and saw a blob with a heartbeat. After more bleeding i had another scan at 8 wks and from this scan they gave me my due date.

So this one might be your only scan hun, you might not get a 12wk scan. Unless your hospital are more generous than mine!!

Although it was a poor picture, we saw my baby and a heart beat at 7 weeks and a good picture and heartbeat a week later so fingers crossed you'll get away without an internal

i had an internal at 6 weeks but my bladder wasnt full enough so this is why i had to get the internal!! Otherwise they would have done the external so make sure u have a full bladder!!! Thats what the midwife said when they said to come back for 8 week scan!!!

I was told that anything under 12 weeks is an internal scan
