Quitting Smoking?

I'm having a terrible...terrible time quitting smoking.

Is there anyone else who smoked alot before falling pregnant? How'd you quit?? I've seen some people on here say they just thought about how bad it is for their baby and that alone made them quit. This isn't working for me I have cut back...alot..but I can't seem to convince myself to quit fully.

I don't have a doctor/midwife. Well, I have a doctor, but it's a clinic doctor and I can't see her until my next appointment, which isn't until the first of October.

Any tips from ANYONE?? Is there anything I'll be able to take to help me quit?

Cutting down is worse it actually is still hard to do. Probably makes you crave more because you are teasing yourself. When I quit I did it cold turkey and never touched not even one puff. I know that one puff can lead to a cig then a few then a pack then the addiction all over. Good luck sweety.

I struggled so much to give up smoking and everytime I had even so much as a tiff with OH I used it as an excuse to go buy ciggies so that I could then say it was his fault! Hormones make you crazy!

I actually spok to my midwife because I was really struggling and she told me that as long as I was trying that was enough which wasnt exactly what I expected to hear

Someone then recommended a book called Allen Carrs easy way to stop smoking! I was really sceptical about whether a book would help me or not but I bought it anyway and since reading it I have not had any urge to smoke whatsoever! Its amazing how good it is and I have heard the same from alot of people so I would seriously recommend you give it a go!

Good luck and hope this is of some use as I know how hard it is!

I did. I quit my after last pregnancy.. its was awful but VERY VERY much worth it!!
Keep it up. xxx Dont give in. The hormones will probably make it seem worse. Remember that once you've passed 7 days you've got that nicotine out of the system and every day gets easier and better xx

To stop craving. thick drinks... pure oranges juice or milkshake.
Chewing always made me crave more... to id stay aawy from gums.
I always found nicotine replacement products where pointless.. might as well smoke.

You will find something thats right for you. Its hard to do somthing for somone you can see yet, but remember he or she is worth it

Hey, you need to educate yourself to know more about your addiciton, this will help you to quit. The key part of quitting is understanding that there are NO useful aspects of smoking. If you think that smoking helps you to think, relax, or feel balanced you are wrong. Smoking make you free from addiction for 30 min. or less then you start thinking about next "dose" again.

When you change your mind it will be not hard to quit and stay free from smoking. And, of course, you should learn all these easy to use tips like to breathe, exercise, and drink more water during smoking cessation process. Remember, that millions of people did this, and YOU ARE ABLE TO QUIT SMOKING TOO.

A girl I know didn't quit smoking when she was pregnant and when her little boy was born he was late, underweight, and in hospital with nicotine withdrawl.

Firstly well done for cutting down!! A lot of the girls on here who have given up smoking will know how hard that is alone!! I managed it!!

You've just got to stick at it and be firm with yourself and just keep cutting down and down and down until your at zero!!

Good luck!!

I've been up and down with this problem since I was 20. I smoked almost 'casually' with co-workers and if we went out for drinks after work, and then more and more when I moved in with Jonah's father. I wasn't a heavy smoker, about 10 a day, so found it pretty easy to give them up entirely when I found out I was pregnant. But, it is indeed an addiction, and less than two years later I was smoking again, and more than before. I gave up on my own during the move to the house we are in now. As I didn't really have time to sit and smoke, I found myself doing it less and less, and then I just forgot to buy more and was fine with that. Of course, then I got stressed out about a year later and was back to it... it was a comforting addiction for me. I smoked right up until I found out I was pregnant again, and then both my partner and myself gave it up. We were both smoking a lot, so we felt the best way would be cold turkey, because otherwise I'd still have that in my system, and it would be even harder to let go.

I won't lie and say I found it easy, but it is definitely the best thing. I felt SO much better once that first week was over. I do still find myself wanting one now and then, but I know how bad it is and won't give in. I'm hoping that this time I've managed to give up for good!! Good luck to you, I really hope you manage to give up smoking entirely. One thing that helped me a lot was lollipops. I'd get the sugar free ones, and when I wanted a cigarette too badly I'd get out a pop instead.

Another vote for Allan Carr over here. Defo well worth a read, i got my copy for £2 off amazon. I wouldn't bother with the nicotine replacement therapies. At least not until you have read the book as he basically teaches you a whole different way of thinking. I read his book and quit straight away and dare I say it, it was easy. Sounds like a load of rubbish but i know a lot of people who have successfully quit after reading the book.
