First OB appointment today, nervous!

I'm 13 weeks today, and will see my OB for the first time this afternoon. I REALLY dislike doctors, and I'm not at all looking forward to having an exam (being naked in front of a stranger is WAY down on my list of fun things to do). I had some serious issues with m/c and uterine surgery two years ago so was automatically sent to an OB, but I might elect to switch to a midwife if the doc says everything is normal at today's appointment.

I'm nervous girls, help! I guess I just need some reassurance

Hope your appointment goes well.

At my first OB appointment they didn't do a physical (but I had already had one done by my GP). They asked me loads of questions, took my history, took my blood pressure, listened for the baby's heartbeat (which they don't always do that early on as it can be difficult to find), and (I was lucky) they sent me for an ultrasound.

Hey girls, I'm back!

I was seen by a nurse for BP, urine testing and weight, then a resident took a long history and we listened to the baby's heartbeat - that was so exciting! Finally the OB made an appearance, but just to talk (no exam today). They're sending me to Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto to a special pregnancy clinic for high-risk ladies, where they'll do a thorough workup and take all my past/present medical issues into account. Then they'll decide what to do with me - either keep me as their patient, or send me back to my OB to continue on with any recommendations/further testing added to my file.

So basically it was painless - nice nurse, GREAT receptionist, scan and bloods scheduled for next week, nice doc (if young and unsure about high-risk patients), and a wonderful surprise worked into the mix. Hearing the baby's heartbeat was amazing - finally I know s/he's okay in there!
