Been to 1st midwife appointment - need advice

Hi all,

I was in there for over an hour filling in forms and going through things, it wasnt the normal midwife that I will be seeing as she wasnt in today so this lady had been called in but she was lovely and it was bizarre her son has the same name as my son and its not a mega popular name

For some reason I wasnt looking forward to having my blood taken, she took 5 tubes of blood and I came over all faint, dizzy and abit hot and sweaty and sort of felt like I wasnt there but I was silly and didnt tell her how I was feeling

I had to go and do a wee sample so I said I would go and do that just so I could get out of the room, I sorted myself out in the toilet and then felt fine

She tested my wee and I have to do another sample that needs to be sent off as she thinks I might have a urine infection so all in all therehave been a couple of worrying things going on

Im hoping it will all be ok though, has anyone experienced the dizzy feeling when having bloods taken and do you think baby will be ok if i have got an infection, not sure how long I have had it

I am not sure sorry, I know when you donate blood they give you a biccy after to get your blood sugar back up... maybe yours was a tad low before you had bloods done?
I am sure someone with more knowledge will be able to answer you. I am sure bub will be OK with the infection.

Don't worry honey - I can't remember the last time I had a blood test without passing out!! The infection should be easy to treat too, try not to worry

I had a UTI when I was 5 weeks gone and they gave me some antibiotics that are safe to take during pregnancy. Drink lots of water and the infection should clear up quickly and won't harm your baby - it's quite normal to get them during pregnancy. Also when I had the infection i felt really dizzy, my mind went completely to pot and I was much more tired than normal. I wouldn't worry about your dizziness I imagine the infection is making it worse and it's normal to feel quite dizzy in pregancy as well - I know i do. Hope this helps

I go dizzy when i have my bloods took, i feel a bit sickly after too, but it doesent last long.
If they need to take any more blood at some point, might be a good idea to take a bottle of lucazade with you, or another sugary drink, just give you a boost.
