I have my first scan tomorrow

.. my DR bought my scan forward to tomorrow because of some slight bleeding I had at 5 weeks. Im really nervous about the scan because I just dont know what to expect. Not only do they look at the baby but also at your tubes etc: which is worrying incase something isnt quite right.
Did anyone else have these fears when they first went for their scan? I mean what exactly do they do and roughly how long will it take?
As Im rather slim, the nurse said I may be able to have an stomach scan instead of an internal- what should I expect tomorrow? and is it as worrying as it seems?

I only recently had my first scan. And i think its natural for a mother-to-be to be concerned and panic a bit.

I was REALLY worried, all i wanted to hear was that everything was ok.

Me and my fella went along and they just rubbed loads of jelly over my belly and it all happened VERY quickly!! Was very emotional and a simply amazing experience!!

It took about 20 minutes - once she had asked questions etc (in order to work out my due date)

I'm not too sure about internal scans...

So rest assured! Ur not a freak for worrying and i wish u all the luck in the world and hope everything goes well - let us know!

Thank you for the reassurance but Im soooo nervous.
I had some slight bleeding at 5 weeks but DR and I think thats due to an irritated cervix ( I kept feeling for the position)
Im just really scared that they wont see anything on the scan, I mean you hear about those kind of miscarriages all the time (and my dr said missed miscarriages are rare)

Like you, all I want to hear is "everything is fine"- but being only 7 and a half weeks, Im not to optomistic and plus, the chances of the abdominal scan being clear is pretty much slim, so looks like i'll be having an internal- though im kinda hoping that due to having a tiny body frame, it will be easy to find imagea and an internal wont be needed.

Im glad everything went well for you, I bet you were so relieved to hear that youre lil one was ok- That's all I want, to know that my baby is healthy and has a very healthy beating heart but again, being under 2 months pregnant, I'm scared they wont find it.

Thanks again for the response. x
By the way, how far gone were you at your first scan? I bet you waited for your 12 week scan right? Im far too impaitent for that!

I had an internal scan two years ago when i had a miscarriage... they ask you to put your legs up and then open them out.... and this relaxes you... then they enter the scanner which looks like a vibrator LOL LOL and are very gentle.

The internals are a shock when your not expecting it - First time I had a scan I was asked to strip I was mortified but mostly because I wasn't expecting it!

It's honestly fine just relax the nicely cover you as much as possible & they are sitting to the side of you they are more intersted in their screen

My experience of an internal was fine........I had to put a hospital gown on, then lay on a bed with my legs apart and the sonographer put the scanner in me (like a long rod) and that was that!

TBH I found it absolutely fine, I thought it was going to be so embarassing and undignified, but it was nothing of the sort.......I was covered up and the sonographer didn't even need to look down below, so I was really relieved.......I had a total of 3 internals during this pregnancy, and they have all been the same, I would have no problem having another one if needed at any point!

I hope that reassures you hun....

I wish you all the best for your scan, we all have fears when it comes to the first scan, you are not alone! x

Why on earth would you need to strip? thats not necesarry is it? I mean they're scanning your insides not your clothing.
I was intending on going to the hospital wearing a skirt so they could just do it whilst I kept my clothes- how embarrassing.

What am I likely to see on this scan? (thats providing everything is ok) I mean will the heartbeat be visible etc

You put on a hospital gown, You wouldn't lay there starkers!

You will be able to see the baby and the heartbeat, everything you can on a tummy scan! x
