An internal at this stage will give a clearer picture indeed! Internal scans are 100% safe!

Hi,

I also had an abdominal scan at 5 weeks (Not much to see) am having another at 8 weeks so sure they will be able to give you one of those. The sonographer said after 7 weeks they are able to see the baby with them

good luck x

I had a successful abdominal scan at 8 weeks but perhaps the internal scan allows them a clearer look at the baby, uterus, sac, etc.

Hi, I have had two internal scans and two abdominal ones due to spotting. My internal scans were at 5 weeks and 6 weeks. My abdominal scans were at 8+5 weeks and 10+6 weeks. They were perfectly clear so there was no need for the internal scans. It helps them get a clearer picture if your bladder is really full and mine was. When I had the internal scans, there was no pain or bleeding of any kind and I bleed very easily due to a cervical erosion. In my experience, they will try an abdominal scan first and if they can't see enough they will do an internal one. They don't like to put you through any unnecessary procedures. I hope this puts your mind at rest.

i got an abdominal scan at 9 weeks. The pictures were reallllly clear and you could even see the 4 chambers of babys heart beating away. i don't know why they wouldn't try and do an abdo one if you asked.
