Scans?

hi girls, I figured you girls give the best advice so thought I'd ask.

How early can you get a scan done?
I lost a pregnancy a long time ago and that fear still haunts me
If I go see a GP or Gyno now and say I want a scan will they laugh at me?

I was told they don't scan until 12 weeks, but our last one ended at 11.5 weeks - so the earlier I can get a scan done the better.

I just feel as though I can't let myself get too excited until I see that little bean beating away on the screen all happy and healthy

a scan this early will only show a small sac. the only thing a scan this early can confirm for you is if the egg made it to your uterus alright.

You can see a baby at 9 weeks. At 8 weeks it looks like a lizard lol. before 8 weeks you quite often only see the sac.

i had a scan a few weeks ago as i sat in my docs office twitching whingeing and totally panicking, in the end he said i'll send you for a scan, she said i were between 5-6 wks and all i could see was a little ball with a flickering in the middle. it was all i needed though, i'm having another scan tomorrow morning but private this time i'm between 10 and 11 weeks as i'm getting twitchy again. i've got my 12 week scan end of july and i'll be 14 wks by my dates...
all i say is do what you have to do to ease your mind, only you know how you feel,
i think a heartbeat can be seen around 6 wks but don't quote me on it...

Good luck hun, positive thoughts

xxx

I had one at 7 +2 and baby looked like a blob...but a blob with a heartbeat which was wonderful to hear. That was private though not sure if you will be able to get one through Medicare?

My EPU only scan after 6 weeks which is when they can normally pick up the heartbeat. I am booked in next Friday (6+5)

They can check for heartbeat @ approx 6 weeks. After a loss you would normally get an early scan. Well her u do anyway as my frind had 2 MC and has had extra scans this time around.

If you've had 2 or more m/c they will scan you early. However you could push to have an early scan if not anyway and as the other ladies said a heartbeat can be seen from 6 weeks. There is also the option of having an internal, this does not hurt they only put it in a short way and does not harm baby because it's no where near and everything can be seen clearly (alot more clearly).

Do what is best for you and baby to set your mind at rest.
