I'm Currently Feeling: | Allergy shots ok?? I just wanted to ask any of you mommies-to-be if you are currently getting allergy shots while pregnant?? I have severe allergies and have been on them for 2 1/2 years. My allergist says they are ok...but the fertility specialist looked at me and said, "do you NEED to be on them?" This concerned me! He said they are Category B, but if i need to take them....so i am in a pickle! The nurse at my allergists told me that plenty of women come in during their pregnancy and are fine...am i just being paranoid because i will not even take a Tylenol at this stage in the game? I am 6+2 right now...scan was fineand blood work was great--saw flutter and will be hearing the heartbeat on Monday---everything is so perfect now, just afraid for something to happen...if anyone could reassure me, that would be great! Thanks ladies! So glad i found this forum | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I assume that your shot is some kind of steroid. This could make your baby's lungs develop prematurely and also people on steroids often have low weight babies. In the UK the governmental guidelines on best practice suggest that no one should be having these injections any more. | | | | Status: Offline

| Yeah, and I know antihistamines are a huge NO for pregnant women too. You need to weigh up the risks and benefits for yourself. Personally, I'm suffering from terrible hayfever but I just put up with it. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Honestly I'd go with what the specialist said over what the allergist said. Sorry you have to deal with such bad allergies |

I'm Currently Feeling: | In doing some research I found out that the allergy shots do not contains steroids and also are more safe when the mother has already been taking them for some time. They do not advise to start taking them when pregnant...I also have pretty bad asthma which has been controlled since I have been getting the allergy shots, so I have a fear if I stop them, (I already get out of breath easily) I will need to take my inhaler, which is Catetory C apparently, so I am HOPING I won't need my albuterol. I am going to make an appointment with my allergist and get into the nitty-gritty of it all. I will also discuss it further with the fertility doctor on Monday when we go for the heartbeat at 7 weeks! So exciting!!!
I also have read studies where it could help desensitize the fetus from allergies and such...but more research is to be done on this. I am still up in the air but feel a little more confident after reading up on things that it may be better to stay on the shots. Will keep you updated...Thanks for all your thoughts and comments! |

I've got some that are like it under a different name and everything's been fine since |

I'm Currently Feeling: | It isn't advisable to start them when you are already pregnant, I do know that....Been on them for 2 years, in my system by now...I was taking Zyrtec before getting pregnant but have been fine not taking it during pregnancy...the doc told me it is Category B | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I don't know if this is relevant, as I'm in my third tri. I had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics last weeks, and was given a 10mg piriton injection. I've been reassured that this is perfectly safe, and women who have Obstetric Cholestasis have the injections everyday for weeks, and it is deemed to be safe. Hope this helps a bit |
