I'm Currently Feeling: | Heart Murmur I just got back from the doc's. Bloodwork and dates are all good (Yay!), but she said I have a slight heart murmur. No one has noticed this before, so she says it's probably caused by pregnancy (heart is working hard to pump the extra blood). She is sending me for an echocardiogram to take a look.
Anyone know anything about heart murmurs? Are they a risk to your baby?
Thanks! Not much info on this topic in my pregnancy book. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | It shouldn't be a risk, and is something that does crop up in pregnancy, and it will go away after the baby is born. Overall, you should try not to worry, I am sure it will turn out to be benign. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | It's quite common during pregnancy - due to the increase in blood flowing through your heart. It shouldn't be a risk to your baby, and should return to normal after you give birth |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Heart murmur relates to any sound made by the heart that is irregular to the norm. Its usually a very slight heart defect, which in the case of pregnancy is self correcting afterwards. From what I know it is not a risk to yourself or the baby. Your doc will want to get it checked out because she will have no idea if it was casused by your pregnancy or if it was there before. She's just being cautious. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | hey hun, i had one when i was younger. they think i had a small hole in my heart and the murmur was the blood going between the chambers or somethin. It cleared up over time. Have got to see a consultant about it on weds tho, jsut to make sure everythin's gona be ok with it with regards to he pregnancy. The only other thing that is a constant reminder of it is that whenever i have teeth out or any kind of surgery or anythin i have to have antibiotics. but even that they say isnt essential now!! you should be fine with it, its a really common thing xxxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi,
My doctor's just diagnosed me with a heart murmur as well. She said it's caused by the extra blood pumping through your body when you're pregnant and is nothing to worry about - lots of women develop them in pregnancy and they're not a risk to the baby. At least you know that your body's definitely producing the extra blood that you need!
Hope this helps, but look on the internet as well there are lots of sites that give information on heart murmurs in pregnancy.
