No gentle way to say this, I'm pissed off as hell. Because we've been through m/c and gynecological surgery in the past, this pregnancy is a big deal -- there was a time I was sure I'd never be able to even conceive, and so far I'm doing just great! All my family members know my history and are very supportive, so we've told them (with the exception of my nana, who is a worrier) already. We held off telling my MIL a bit longer, but earlier this week we told her when the right moment came up.

Our friends, my parents, everyone else has just grinned. They've all been so happy for us, some even jumped up and down. Not my MIL. Nothing is good enough for this woman, she drives me nuts at the best of times, but I expected her to react politely, at the very least, and had hoped she would be overjoyed at the prospect of her only son having a child after 11 years of marriage. Nope.

After the announcement, my MIL did two things. First, she got angry that we hadn't told her sooner. She was actually ticked off that I'd told my own husband before her. He's the father, for crying out loud! Then, she looked me up and down and when I said 'that's it?' She said 'I guess it's okay, if that's what you want'. Then she lit a cigarette. WTF?

I'm not really speaking to her ATM, I'm still steaming. Unfortunately, she lives in the same building, right down the hall, so eventually we'll have to have it out and make up but right now I can't face her.

Some people are just odd. Let her be like that if she wants, just look after yourself and the baby and I am sure she will come around at some stage. I'd let her make the first move tho!

she obviously has no love for her son other wise shes be happy that a baby is being brought in to the world with a lovely couple that have been together a long time.

My MIL is a bitch too honey so dont worry about it. We choose our friends but we dont choose our relatives. And I'd make her come to you...just sit it out. She is pissed off cos you didnt give HER enough attention so the last thing you should do now is pamper to that whim. Let her know by your actions that this is about you and not her.

Know how you feel. My DH has written his mother off. We haven't even told her about this pregnancy because we don't speak to her at all anymore.

With my last pregnancy she was very nasty towards us both and then when I had a m/c at 9 weeks she said that I deserved to loose the baby because I'm an evil, vindictive bitch and God is punishing me.
