I smoked regularaly for about 7 years before I got pregnant (from when I was 14). I had tried to stop millions of times and it never worked, but on the day I found out I just stopped and I haven't had one since. I've been stopped for 8 months now. It was really hard, but it gets easier. If I can do it, anyone can! Good luck to all of you!

Hi all. I'm really struggling with the giving up smoking. I'm still living at my dads atm and my dad and stepmum both smoke heavily. My partner is a heavy smoker too and there is no chance that any of them are going to cut down or give up with me. I feel really angry, because its so difficult when someone else is smoking around you to give up! I have definately cut down a lot, I'm smoking about 5 a day tops and most of those get put out half way through.
Any tips on quitting? I've been feeling so guilty as I have had some bleeding and I don't want to put my little squishy at risk...

Well done

I think mothers who don't try their hardest to give up smoking are really quite selfish

Krissie, I am just so grateful for feeling sick cause I was trying so hard before that but I got it dowen to 1 or 2 a day but I didnt know if I would be able to give that couple up. As long as you try your best to cut down. The midwife told me to cut them out totally, was quite blunt with me cause i told her I had a tiny bit of bleeding so she said if I stopped i would be giving my baby the best chance.

I used to smoke 10 a day and I've cut down to about 5. My midwife suggested NOT to try quitting altogether (amazingly) because it's a stressful time and really not the right time to quit if I don't feel ready, so I'm just cutting down as much as I can.

Maybe I'll have a chat with my midwife about it tomorrow. The weird thing is, smoking doesn't make my sickness worse, but the smell afterwards and the smell of other people smoking does... Gah! It's just typical.
Has anyone tried going to a stopping smoking clinic?
Well done to all of you who have cut down and quit!

There's a lady at my doctors I'm supposed to see about my smoking but I haven't got round to it. I go through phases as well. When my sickness was at it's worst I couldn't smoke, but now I can smoke but the smell makes me feel sick! It's strange. Try not to feel too guilty. I feel a bit guilty too but if you smoked before it's hard to just totally quit. Great for the people that could just quit when they found out they were pregnant, but it's really not like that for everyone. Just try cutting down as much as you can then quit when you feel ready! And don't feel so guilty!
