Sun burn

Well i dont know if im being silly or not?!
Well it was absolutly lovely on monday and tuesday up where i am so decided i would sit out in the sun for a hour or two. I had factor 8 on which i thought would be plenty for the english weather. Oh how wrong I was.
My legs, chest and top of my arms are bright red, tingly and very sore.
One of my friends said its very very bad to get sunburnt when pregnant and has got me very worried.
I go on holiday in just less than 3weeks and i dont want to be sat in the shade for the entire two weeks. Obviously i have higher factors of sun cream for going abroad. but is it really bad to be out in the sun and can sun burn harm my baby or me?!

cheers
xx

Being in the sun isnt very harmful to your baby. The main thing people worry about is getting dehydrated as its very easy to whilst pregnant. Its been said that you should try and avoid beaches, or if you cant, make sure you have plenty and plenty of water available, and if there is any shade areas, visit them every hour or so just to cool down a bit.

Being by the pool is fine, just make sure you keep ontop of sunblock. Especially around your stomach as the skin is thinner than normal. And also drink a glass of water for every extra hour you are out in the sun.

I dont think being in the sun brings any dangerous harm to your body, its just what it can do if you dont look after yourself. If you just follow the guidlines and take care of yourself youll be fine

EDIT : Forgot to add. Heat can also trigger nausea, in some cases quite bad. So try not to stay out longer than you need to .

xx

The important thing is to stay hydrated and to cool the skin down as fast as you can after you get sun burn - and keep doing it. Drink lots of water and use a good after sun cream - preferably a spray.

I went to Gran Canaria 2 weeks ago and got really sunburnt on my chest (it's still clearing up now ) but it hasn't affected my baby at all... I spoke to my midwife about it last week and she said there is nothing to worry about.

Have a lovely holiday!

Oh I got a horrible sunburn 2 and a half weeks ago, went to the OB a few days afterwards (not for the sunburn but another appointment) and all she said to me was that pregnant women were more susceptible to burns and I needed to be more careful from now on Didn't seem concerned about baby's health at all.
