I'm Currently Feeling: | Folic Acid im 5 weeks pregnant, i found out i was pregnant a week ago. I only started taking Folic acid 4 days ago when i went to see my midwife. it says on the packet that your supposed to take it in the first three months...would anyone recommend that i take it for a bit longer to make up time..or just stop at three months? cause im thinking that the little bean growing inside me would not have got enough folic acid as he/she should have.
thanks

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'd honestly ask your MW. Some people take folic acid throughout their pregnancy. I've been taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid in it the entire pregnancy, my OB never said anything about stopping the vitamin so I've continued to take it |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I wouldnt worry too much most people dont even find out their pregnant until 5 or 6 weeks let alone start taking folic acid.
But i would ask your MW what they think .. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | As far as I understand the folic acid is meant to help the spinal cord and nerves develop. And by about 3 months that part of the bean's development process is complete. But that said I can't imagine it would do any harm to keep taking it - there just might not be any more benefit. If I was you I would definately just check with the MW. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Like others have said...ask you MW or doc. folic acid is to help the spinal cord develop so, after the the first months, the basic structure/foundation is done developing. Folic acid is in certain food too. If you are really worried about it, try to go back and see what your were eating around the time you first conceived. I am sure all is well |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yeah I had this worry. I'm 7 weeks and I saw my midwife on Monday and she didn't even mention it, although it was a flying visit. I don't see her again for two weeks so I suppose if it was essential she would have mentioned it to me in the first visit, so I wouldn't worry | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | i think the folic acid says that because it (well pregnacare at least) says its for conception aswell. I'm planning on takin folic acid the entire way through pregnancy and breastfeeding |

I'm Currently Feeling: | if you are concerned then there is no harm to continue taking it, but as an alternative. Have you heard of Olvatine? its like a malt drink which contains folic acid and is recommended for pregnant women to drink so you could have a cup of that everyday it would also help with your milk intake! |
