When will you tell your employers?

I ended up having to tell my old boss I was pregnant really early on the first time round cos I was so ill.

I'm now in a new job and so far the symptoms haven't been too bad this time around, but I'm just wondering if I should wait until after 12 weeks to tell work, just in case something happens before. Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but I miscarried quite early the first time, so I don't really want to broadcast things until I'm out of the 'danger zone'.

Has anyone else told work yet?

I told my boss the day after i found out, (he was the one who told me to go to the doctors as i was showing signs of being pregnant)

I think when you tell them doesn't really matter, if you miscarry i think they would be alot more understanding about the situation when you have time off etc etc, plus telling them early helps them adapt the workplace so there is less risks towards you, well thats what mine has done

Hope this helps

I told my line manager and general manager unofficially within a week of me knowing.

The Managing director of the company also knows unofficially, so i guess i will inform HR in the next week or so

I have told me boss in Leeds but not the big boss in Hull. There are only the two of us in the Leeds office so she would have guessed soon enough anyway. Im going to tell my Hull boss when I feel ready. There is no rush in my mind. If your worried about miscarriage i would personally tel them, they will be more understanding if anything did happen and if not at least they will respect you for giving them lots of notice
Good luck

I didn't tell mine and started bleeding at work at nearly 7 weeks. I was forced to tell them but I was so nervous. Turns out they were really supportive and gave me as much time off as I needed after I m/c. If we get our BFP soon I will def be telling them in case it happens again.

Thanks for all your responses ladies! I think I'm going to tell work after my scan next friday. I'm trying to figure out what to say, as I've just had a review and my boss was going on about how pleased they were with my work and how it took them such a long while to find the right designer to cover (I was originally brought in to cover someone else's maternity leave!). I sat there and just smiled - in my head I was thinking "Oh booooyyyyy..."

I've told my department head and his assistant! Simply because i work in accounts and our work is all structured to time lines and month ends etc. And to get time off for something can be tricky so i was of the mind set to tell them so i didnt have issues and worry's about not being able to make a MW appointment or scan.

When i was off last week visiting EPU they was great.

Think they are more understanding knowing then me taking days off.

no one else knows at work
