Does it have to be a doctor?

Hi,

U would think as this is my 3rd child that i would know this but im with a different doctors surgery than the previous pregnancies.

i foned my doctors yesterday to book an appointment for monday when my oldest son is at school and my hubby is off work and they havent got any unless i fone up on the day, i was gonna fone back up 2day and ask to make an appointment with the nurse if no doctors available, i didnt tell the receptionist what i needed appointmant for. so my question is, does it have 2 be a doctor that i see the first time or do u think a general nurse would be ok or should i just fone the surgery and ask them??

Ok, Ive just rang the surgery and told her what it was for, she went and checked and came back and said i dont need to see anyone until 10-13 weeks when u see a midwife, i asked about the pack u get and the medical exception form that they have 2 sign for free dental appointments and prescriptions and she said i will get all that when i see the midwife so i now feel abit down, i wanted to get the form sent off and get my pack sooner, what do u think

Hi Claire, I had the same experience. I wanted to exemption form and some info and asked the doctor for them but he wouldn't give me anything, saying the MW would do it all. I was so disappointed when I did see the Doc I was in tears most of the day so I know where you're coming from. The MW told me that if you do need treatment of prescriptions in the meantime you can just say the exemption form is in the post and that should suffice, though I've not needed to put that to the test.

I would suggest you gas on BnB for the next few weeks while you wait. I didn't join here until a few days before my MW appointment but I think it would've helped loads! I found it pretty lonely waiting to see MW.

You'd think that they'd be glad of some good news for a change really wouldn't you ?!

I had the same response from my doctor with my last one. He just said that the midwives would be in contact via the post in the next 8 weeks or so! No support in the mean time; He didn't even say congratulations! Meany.

This time though my GP palpated my tummy to see if I was further than i thought or had twins in here, she booked my MW appointment for me and said congratulations!

Bloody weird system.

I find the UK system very strange. I can't remember ever having a doctors appointment where my stomache wasn't palpated or my glands checked and that could be for anything from a sore throat to a sore toe. When my sister was pregnant she went to the doctor every 3 weeks or so from when she found out just for a routine check. It seems strange that you get no reassurance from the medical side until you reach 12 weeks.
