If we all followed all the eating 'rules'... we'd be starving!!!

have you girls seen the stuff people say not to eat while pregnant?! it is crazy how much "you shouldnt eat that" "stay away from this" is out there!! I admit, i am not the best and RARELY am following these eating "rules" i haven't changed my diet much at all actually. it is funny though, all the things i read of what not to eat, or what other ladies say they are going to stay away from (while i am munching on it at my computer desk )

here's a couple of things i've heard not to eat today:
seafood
pepperonis
caesar salads
artificial sweeteners
decaf coffee

all of which i have had since getting pregnant! now...granted...MAYBE some of that is bad, maybe...but for heavens sake if we all followed every rule we'd be starving!!!!

anyone else hear of any other foods to avoid? do you avoid any foods? I'm not saying you shouldn't, of course, to each their own...i'm just a baddy and like to eat what i want to eat if my baby comes out looking like a pepperoni pizza because i ate a slice, i'll let you know!

There are loads of foods on the do not eat list, most didn't affect me because I'm a slightly picky eater But I do miss my medium rare steak and runny eggs.

Lol i do agree to some extent. I think that it's silly the hype around food 'don't eat this, don't eat that.' and I hold my hands up and say a lot of 'no-no' foods i have eaten while pregnant but in small moderations. Eg I've had like, 3 runny eggs my whole pregnancy. It didn't hurt any of us and they didn't have these rules when our mums were pregnant. But also with advanced science, there must be some reason why we're told to avoid certain things which is why I don't eat how I used too. And I haven't touched alcohol since I found out I was pregnant

i agree there are some things i do stay away from (for obvious reasons!) which is pretty much rare meats so i am having steaks cooked well done now lol. i never liked undercooked eggs, not really a drinker, so i didn't have to worry about those much. But that's about it! MAYBE i'll have 1 less coke...

it's things like pepperonis that make me scratch my head!

Honestly, there's a risk in everything IMO. Just be sensible and try your best to stick to the rules. 90% on, 10% off shouldn't make too much of a difference aslong as you avoid obvious things like alcohol and raw eggs/meat.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't pepperonis and salamis raw meat? I thought they were cured instead >.<

im a really fussy eater anyway, so i dont like any of the food that we're not allowed to eat lol. one annoying thing is that i have hayfever and i went to take a pill for it yesterday, but on the back of the packet it says "do not take when pregnant or breastfeeding"

i have heard about it, and i have heard of some people staying away from salami. but it does not phase me lol i've already eaten a pepperoni pizza!!! if its bad, i've already doomed myself, know what im sayin? lol

they also say stay away from deli meat...which, yes, i know may be undercooked. but i honestly can't help myself, i had a ham sandwich yesterday, yikes! If i went off that and stuck to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, that would be bad too...as ive read to stay away from all peanuts as well incase of allergies!!!

I second your thoughts about the what to eat/what not to eat issues. I'm a veggie so that means lots of things on the list I don't eat anyway, but at the moment while I'm full to the brim with nausea my menu consists mainly of toast, cereal and crisps. I had an egg butty for lunch today - about my third egg since conception! Hardly a balanced healthy diet!

There is one that's a mixed blessing - mayonnaise. Not supposed to have it, which is great because I hate the stuff and veggie things always have it on, but then the flip side is I find nothing to eat when at work events. Sigh...

I just can't wait to get me a proper meal again. Roll on second trimester...
