I was told by somebody not to drink Coke (full sugar one). I had a terrible craving for it in 1st tri to the point my eyes were like saucers as I drinking so much of it

I still drink it but not like before.

I asked my midwife and she had never heard of the coke thing so I didn't take much notice anyway!

I'm being quite good and staying away from Booze, Brie, Smoked Salmon and Prawns. But i've not given up the peanut butter. I love that on toast. There is no history of allergies in my family, so figure that it will be ok. It's not like i live on it.

I heard you only need to avoid peanuts in the third trimester.

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the 'rules'. I hate soft cheese, pate & fish like tuna anyway, so I'm sorted there. I'd happily eat a runny yolk though, & seafood.. well I'm craving that so I've eaten quite a bit of it lately. I've also eaten pepperoni on pizza because I've never heard of it being 'forbidden' in pregnancy, & I'd eat it again. I drink coke pretty much every day & some people insist caffeine is a no-no, but my midwife told me the caffeine limit per day is the equivalent of 6 cans of coke.. so I think I'll be ok with 1 or 2. I also don't see the harm in a couple of units of alcohol once in a while.

It's all personal choice.

I don't know. The trouble all these messages about what to eat and what not to eat is so contradictory. In my book i have at home in one place it said to avoid peanuts and then in another section of the same book it said, "to get your protein if you can't afford to have meat all the time, use cheaper alternatives like peanuts". That was in the same book where they can't make their minds up.

I have seen that many things on what not to eat I have sort of made my own list and I am just sticking to that - soft cheese, uncooked / smoked seafood, alcoholic / caffinated drinks (although I have still had the odd cup of tea), runny eggs (which I don't like anyway), fatty foods (although I do still have in moderation) and uncooked meat. I can't believe all the contradictions out there of what you shouldn't eat. I think as long as I avoid all the above, and eat my 5 fruit and veg a day, I'll be fine.

I have been feeling sick all day today and the only thing I could eat earlier was a bacon and cheese toastie not exactly good, but if it stays down then I'm happy.

Most of the foods that we are not supposed to eat is because of the risk of food poisoning. Those foods have more risk so 'they' (whoever they are) think it is best to avoid them altogether.

I had SUSHI and BEER just two days before I got my BFP - which I worried about. But at the moment there is very little that I can face eating anyway so it seems like only in the second trimester will the rules seem a bit more of a problem.

haha!!!

to be honest, i think a lot of the stuff they say not to eat, they just put on to cover their own backs...just incase something happened to someone...

when i was pregnant, i really didnt pay a huge amount of attention to what i shouldnt eat, purely because i was so sick, i could only eat a few things, so i thought it was better i ate something than nothing!!
xx

You're right about most of it being about food poisoning. A bit silly as the biggest cause of food poisoning worldwide is actually rice but I've never seen that on a list! (In case I now worry anyway I think it's in the reheating, i.e. don't!)

Im the same as Chelle, kind of made my own list of foods to avoid, with the major ones on there of course, but certain things are ok for one off's i guess. But if im really not sure if i can have it then i wont bother.

Had some full fat cherry coke the other day as i really fancied some and hadnt drunk a full fat drink for years ... now i remember why it tasted like drinking grit
