Question

NT Scan

Went for my NT scan yesterday - baby was moving around fine and measuring right for age but the little bugger would not get in the right position for consultant to measure back of neck. After 30min of poking and prodding (not v comfy with a full bladder!) blob still wouldn't move into right position!
So now I have to go back again on Thurs...
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this ?

Thanks

I have a question for you. Actually a couple if you don't mind
How old are you? I am 33 and this is something that concerns me as the older you are the more at risk you are. How many wks gone are you and did you GP/Midwife offer this or, did you have to ask if so at what appointment? I have my 1st antenatal appt with my GP a wk today. Thanks in advance.

mine was pretty much the same as yours, grape was asleep and wouldn't move, but finally after lots of shoving and pushing, a hand was raised as if to say stop now, and after moving around for a bit a measurement could be taken, the lady did say though that if she couldn't i'd have to go back, so i assume this is the norm, i wouldn't worry at least you get to see your bean all over again.

Hi Shmoo75
The Nuchal test is not offered as standard on the NHS we decided to pay for it privately since we both decided it that if anything was wrong we would rather know sooner rather than later. I'm 33 now but will be 34 when baby is born - just for peace of mind really, the clinic I went to offer the NT scan and a blood test which gives them 90-95% certainty on the results.
Hope that answers all your questions
Oopps - forgot to say that I am just coming up to 12 weeks - the NT scan can be done between 11 and 13 weeks.

I had mine today, bubs was also lying in the wrong place and wouldn't move. He was prodding me and I was jumping up and down. Then he sent me off to have a chocolate bar and come back and bubs had moved! I did feel a little mean tho!
Maybe a chocolate bar before you try again next week.

Hi, I am 34 and almost 8 weeks pregnant, I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and she told me about the NT test that the will do, I didn't have to ask her for it as far as I am aware it is standard, perhaps it is standard in some areas I don't know, but my last child that I had when I was 30, I also has this test done and once again I didn't ask for it.

Not me no, but I didn't have any of the triple testing done so I don't think they even measured the neck!

At least you get another scan out of it

I had an NT scan done last friday. I have had to have 2 early scans so i wasn't entitled to a 12 week scan so we decided to pay to have a scan. We went to a local nhs hospital and paid £150 as a private patient for scan and bloods. I had the blood taken last tuesday so we had our results straight after the scan. Our baby cooperated beautifully and lay face down so the back of the neck was very visable. Unfortunately it meant we didn't get any good pictures and we didn't see our little ones face. Never mind though! I was very pleased as i got good results and am low risk which is the most important thing.
