I had no idea painting was bad for the baby. we have so much work to do on the house and since iv been pregnant iv painted the kitchen cupboards, the bedroom and the hallway, i had the door wide open, it was such a beautiful day, but im so worried now. since finding out its a danger, i hired a painter to finish for me. im so angry at OH hes just like... ohh well, dont worry, paint cant do anything... im so worried please someone reassure me
I think they tell you to stay away from paint because the fumes aren't GOOD for your baby, but you need to be inhaling ALOT of fumes in order to do any damage. I wouldn't worry unless you opened the can and inhaled the fumes for a good 5 hours.
Exactly what mblack said, I guess it's like smoking, if you do it for too long it'll be bad. Aslong as you know now and try and keep away you should be okay I reckon!
i wasn't really aware painting your house could be so bad...i mean many many pregnant women paint their nursery before baby arrives and are fine, right? I think you'd have to seriously be sniffing the paint for it to have an effect on baby. if you had the doors and windows and such open, i think you're fine, love. don't worry i am sure baby is 100% ok!
OMG thankyou so much everyone. no, i dont make a pount of sniffing paint lol. but yes i did have the rooms well ventilated, i was stood right by the open door. every little thing worries me right now after my m/c i get scared im doing anything wrong
Painting is ok, you should make sure you have as many windows open as you can and even a fan blowing from inside out to circulate the air... You can also get masks from wal-mart which can help too.
You can look into the new paints out there now that don't have toxins released into the air. I can't remember what it is called, but I have seen it a few times on re-model shows. I plan to find some when I paint the nursery as I hate the fumes and my asthmatic son doesn't do too well with them.
Paint fumes can be harmful, I think gloss paints are worse thou, elmusion mightn't be too bad, so long as it's well ventilated.
I think it's best to play it safe thou, and a good idea to let the decorators finish for you. To get rid of the smell of fumes when they finish, light a candel in the room. No idea why but this seems to work
